Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What solvent to use to remove Shimano groupset name?

I have a Tiagra 4700 groupset on my bike and I want to remove the Tiagra logo on the crank arms, rear D and shifter. What solvent should I use to remove the logo but not ruin the dark grey finish? Also, is it advisable to remove all grease from my rear wheel hub to decrease resistance and make the hubs louder

Just Wear Red shorts and no one will notice the cranks.

There should be no shame in riding a Tiagra-equipped bike.

Depends on your priorities. If a loud hub is more important then having it last more than a couple of hundred miles, go for it. If you want a reliable hub that also has spins freely now and next year, keep that grease! There are good reasons why every bearing in a bicycle (and car, truck and airplane) is greased.

I agree. Also, it is hard to tell from pictures but it seems very likely that the Tiagra logo is not something that is pad-printed on the crank arm but rather etched into the arm by lasering through the anodized finish. You'd have to scrub away all of the surrounding anodizing to remove it.

Be careful if you are planning on fake DuraAce or Campy SR or such. One annoying member here posted a story about some other riders taking exception to the Cannondale stickers he put on his BD bike. Apparently they were prepared to thrash him but he was somehow able to slink away. Can't imagine why anyone would admit to any of that....

???

You could drill an oil hole in the hub, and once a day fill it with oil

It is not advised, I had the same idea with with making my hub louder, but it will wear out your hub faster. Also it won't sound to great. If you want loud and good sounding, buy a new wheel set that's already loud, like I did, my Campys screem.

MAVIC freehubs are pretty loud, but not as loud as you will be if you need any customer service from them...

With a little sandpaper, you could polish the parts to a nice aluminium shine.

There was one person that put HUFFY stickers on his Litespeed

The "fakes" are probably not that bad until they hit the used market for one reason or another. And, eventually someone forgets the real identity.

At least with vintage Campy, photographing is popular, and one never really knows if the photographed parts are original or not. Or, drilling (for effect). It may be possible to cut material from Nuovo Record chainrings to make them look like Super Record.

I put leftover "Litespeed" bar tape on my $10.00 1970'2 Rex beater bike. Only one person. another Litespeed owner, has noticed.

A 10-30% lye solution (or somewhere in that range) will strip off all the anodizing but leave the aluminum relatively untouched. The crank could then be polished and reanodized any color the OP wants, and perhaps even machined a bit after to look just like Dura Ace.
