51mm Caliper to 74mm post?

Hi! I have some old Hayes MX-1 mechanical disk calipers, 51 mm IS that I would like to mount on a rear frame that has 74 mm post mounts. The rotors are 160 mm. Can I do this? If so, would you please point me to a link on Amazon or one of the bike sites where I can find the adapter. Thx!

I believe this is the part you need.
NEW KCNC DISC BRAKE ADAPTOR POST MOUNT FORK TO IS 160MM CALIPER, RED | eBay

Note, there are some potential clearance and frame fitment issues. I have one to adapt some old XTR calipers, but haven't had a chance to test fit it.

Are you sure about that, I've only seen the MX-1 / HMX-1 as a 74mm post mount caliper.

What's the frame and are you sure that it has post mounts on it.

There are disc brake Adapters .. the caliper it self can direct mount to post mount, on say your suspension fork.

if it has an ISO Type mount , those holes are 90 degrees from those

there is where you bolt the adaptor, then bolt the caliper to the edge of the adapter..

Its a really common parts combo..

Maybe you just need need to shop for a different Brake caliper.. ? One that WILL fit your post mounts?

'/,
There's one combination that not common. Adapters that convert post to IS.

Some of the older brake sets came with a post front caliper and IS rear caliper (XTR 970 for example). To re-use them on a more modern frame you need to convert the frame to having IS mounts, which requires the adapter I linked above. But since post mount is a better package, there can be some clearance issues.

Photos of the brake & frame mounts might be useful in this thread.

The only Hayes MX-1 I've ever seen is a post mount caliper.

ISO frame Tab to post mount adapters , are about as common as .. can be..

they are the piece that mounts the disc caliper so they come (marked) in sizes of disc..

NB: because of manufacturing conventional standards ..

same adaptor fitted on front is for a different, smaller disc size than if it were used on the rear ..

160-140; 180-160 ; 180-210, etc

...

Yes, but I think the OP wants the opposite.
Adapter for a post frame to IS caliper, which is hard to find, especially for a +0 configuration.

I didn't think that Hayes made a IS mount mechanical caliper.

Is the frame mount IS or PM?
