80s Fuji Road Bike

dont have a pic yet but im interested in buying one from a hole-in-the-wall lbs.

200 for it...but if im not mistaken, werent early fuji bikes prone to frames breaking???

its blue and horizontally (going down) on the frame it says fuji in yellow letters.

i think it has a team fuji badge/seal design...any good?

Not aware of any frame issues with Fuji bikes.

Depending on what it is $200 might be a bit high but I have a fondness for 80's Fujis.

No, Fujis of that era don't have a reputation for breaking. They were well made and durable.

Fuji bikes are generally nice-ish. One of those nice Japanese companies that never made any "trash," although they did make some lower-end bikes that wouldn't be worth $200 now. Take some pictures!

$200 for a quad-butted Valite Team Fuji? Complete? That's a fair price (but not a "you stole that bike!" deal). I wouldn't mind paying $200 for that bike at all. If you like that bike, go for it. Definitely not junk, I'd guess upper-mid level, and probably a very enjoyable ride.

In my area, assuming the bike is in great condition and components match, it would be $200 to $250. Buyers like 1980s era Fujis around here.

Wow! Thanks for the link! I've been trying to find more information about the Special Tourer Frame I picked up recently. Was very hard to find anything up until now. Totally didn't know it was only made for one year. Great find. Now comes the fun part of finding the classic components.

I love this forum. Just joined recently and really love the C&V section. \

Thanks again.

+1. If it's a Team Fuji, that's a good price and a nice bike.

Fuji had a titanium road frame in the 80's that was right up there with the top names (Merlin, Panasonic, Litespeed, etc). I can't say for sure about their steel frames, but I'd have to think they were not junk. I built up an older Fuji steel frame for my younger brother. He is freaking HARD on bikes - but he still has that thing!

I'm not so sure that VAL Lite tubing is so special, but Fujis are nice, even at the lower end.

I ride a somewhat modernized Fuji Opus III. The frame is a late 1984 and rides so nice that I split my time between it and a CAAD7. I'm running a 7sp shimano cassette with 8sp campy shifters, Mavic GEL330 32h tubular rims, Suntour Superbe Pro front Der., Pearle 11 stem, Sugino Mighty crank. 22lbs with pedals. About the same weight as many newer steel rides. I've got original components if you are interested. Superbe pro all around.
