First of all, I really enjoy my surly cross check ...and when I saw a (just very slightly used) Rivendell Atlantis (in my small size of 51") discounted I just had to grab it .

So Atlantis riders, feel free to share any thoughts on how you like it
(esp if you also have a surly cross check)....the surly takes 700c wheels but this Atlantis will take 26"...I was worried about the slower speed but was reassured by the sales rep he could just replace the front chain to a higher one to make a similar speed for road riding (since I love to fly--unloaded of course--on the flats.

This should be it , as I also have DeKerf Generation mtn hardtail (made of steel but surprisingly light).

If I already had a CrossCheck (which I do) and could at all seriously consider a Rivendell, I would be all over their new Wilbury frame. Check it out at their website. I think it would make a hilarious townie/cruiser. Of course getting a great price on an Atlantis is hard to pass up.

The Atlantis is awesome, although I kind of wish they'd make a couple more colors for it. I really like the Joe Bell custom yellow one they've got in the gallery. But I'm color-blind, so what the devil do I know?

I got my new Atlantis almost a month ago and damn if it isn't the finest bicycle I've ever ridden. I'm not a collector of Bicycles and I'm only interested in all purpose rides so I'm expecting this to last me the duration. Oh and Krispistoferson if you are all ready paying the Atlantis premium price it is only US$200 more to get a custom paint job. Check out mine in commuter mode:

Those are sexy, sexy. Especially with the all-purpose gear on. Aren't you guys with high-end stuff worried about potholes, agressive taxi drivers, u-locks and all the other hazards to bike finish out there?

I can't speak for anyone else but I don't worry much about finish. I mean I try to keep it nice but I know it won't last forever. With a steel frame one is more inclined to touch up scraped off paint to protect the frame and I did have Riv send me touch up paint in the correct color. I expect I'll just have the frame powdercoated again in 10 years or so.

That's cool... Just wondered about that. I have an old steel Trek frame that I'm sending out to be PC right now.

Those Atlantis' are damn nice looking. How much standover clearance do you have with the seat that low?

Not much. I got the frame as big as I could stand. I don't really consider the seat that low, I would find it a bit more aesthetically pleasing to be a few cm's higher but I'm cool with it where it's at.

I'm with you on that - I like 'em just as tall as I can stand too. I can imagine it's a sweet ride.
