Kings Mountain Incident yesterday
Hi Folks,
I passed the aftermath of an incident on Kings Mountain yesterday. It seems that a rider was hit by a dangerous and impatient driver in a Porsche, just before the entrance to Huddard (sp?) State park. The first I knew about it was a Paramedic van & stream of police cars passing on the way up the hill. There were a large number of folk at the scene including emergency services, so I continued through.
Anyway, if anyone wonders what happened - it seems that the cyclist, while suffering road rash & bruises, is OK and had a lucky escape. I found his posting on the incident here:
https://www.velocipedesalon.com/forum...ive-18800.html
Be careful out there!
Cheers,
Ed

Damn when did that happen? I was there around 11 something and didn't see anything. Some of those weekend drivers are scary as hell and lack all common sense. Hey look a blind turn, lets move in to the other lane and pass a cyclist. idiots.

It was between 12 to 12:30 IIRC. I reached Skyline, had a 5 min chat with some other riders who seemed to know a bit more about the incident and headed back down again, by which time everyone had left the scene.
...And yes, passing a cyclist on blind turns seems to be a widespread disease these days. It happens to me on a regular basis.... often in the dark .

Wow, I know the guy who was hit! He was one of the riders on the scene when Tom Milton passed away during DMD. He and one other guy on that forum, Vlad, were the two riders who arrived after me. Glad he is ok.

Glad to hear it was only a very close call
High performance cars in this area are just for looks unless you’re willing to drive like a sociopath. I saw a yellow Lotus driving up Page Mill probably at 60 mph a few months back (on a Sunday afternoon!).
Do these guys feel like real men when they drive this way? How could anyone be unaware that these are heavily used bicycle roads?
I wonder if the driver was cited or will be found at fault in police report. Regardless, if the cyclist wasn’t seriously hurt, I doubt (based on a recent discussion I had with a lawyer regarding my case) that any payout from insurance is going to be very large.

^ true. I got into an argument with an aggressive driver a couple of years ago on the way up Page Mill. I could hear his approach around a few tight bends, tires squealing & engine revving before passing me way to close. Luckily he heard my advice to slow down through his open window and stopped a way up the road, then proceeded to reverse back at me in a pathetic attempt at intimidation.... I responded by taking a firm stance in the centre of the lane and brazened it out. We then had a frank exchange of words regarding differing opinions on my entitlement to the road at which point he said "f-you" and I suggested some leisure activities he might pursue with his mother. He got back in the car and drove off, and I set a new PB on Page Mill...

I know from personal experience how difficult it
is in such situations to remain detached and
above the fray. However, if you can manage to
do so, it considerably improves your command of
language and metaphor.
In my own case i prefer to go in the direction of
contortionist autoeroticism and never forget
to include the horse he rode in on. But come on,
motherhood is sacrosanct. Let's try to maintain
a higher philosophical level of invective please.

What a butthead! Glad you'll be okay. I drive up to the archery range there and never have a problem with cyclists. That one straight section is the only place to pass uphill, period, and downhill I'm the one holding up the decending cyclists. A little patience goes a long way.

'Tis the Season! This behavior is certainly rampant this time of year...

"Reassuring" to know that I am not the only one with scary drivers and situations!
May be I thought I was attracting these moron drivers as I like to call them! (sometimes "****** bags")
I am surprised that the word "******" is a "dirty" word, in french it is exactly the contrary, because you are clean after a shower!
