Spent the weekend up in MidPines at Yosemite Bug. Was a training weekend w/ Delta Velo seniors & juniors and some fine members of Stockton Bike Club. Got in 85 miles on Friday and 93 on Saturday. Good times. Today was a 25 mile spin to get rid of bad stuff in the legs.
I must tell you, Yosemite Bug is Fantastic! I had some fantastic dinners there. I give this place two thumbs up.

Don't mince words
The thick, wet, drippy, cold fog inspired me to stay indoors and do gym workouts. Today was brilliant, so I got in >46 mi. in about 3 hrs. Started off strong, did some intervals and a 5-mile threshold workout, then bonked big-time. Most of the ride was great; the last 1/3rd painful and slow. But still, it was outdoors in excellent weather.

I bike commute every day, and the last week sucked. It was so foggy/misty/cold. But today made up for it all. This morning, before dawn, the sky was ever so clear, and that sliver of a moon hanging over me against the dark blue made me forgive the fog devils, at least for a day.

This is more or less from BSNYC:
Now, I didn’t ride the Slutt, but I looked at the Slutt website, which was full of poorly-translated English and a lot of Flash animation. I also rode lots of crappy bikes that were not the Slutt and possessed none of the attributes of the Slutt. Even the name of the bicycle itself told me most of what I needed to know, this is the bike to ride. So I can say with complete assurance that the carbon fiber construction and layup yielded a frame that was laterally stiff yet vertically compliant. I can also say that this bike climbs like a monkey in a set of crampons, descends like a monkey in a set of crampons being dropped from a helicopter, handles corners like a Slutt, and accelerates like a particle in a particle accelerator that itself is just a tiny particle in a giant particle accelerator. Overall, the effect is like sitting in a caffe in a trendy Milan street while sipping a cappuccino and wearing fabulous clothes yet inexplicably traveling at or close to the speed of light. Pure Italian class.

Gorgeous morning on Diablo today. My first climb to the top since the pre-Christmas ride. Very windy though... almost got knocked over a couple of times.

Not much time today with errands to run and wanting to spend time with the family.
23 miles and 3200 feet of climbing doing repeats up Avila Road in Concord.
This is pic is taken approaching the one tree on the God forsaken sun blasted thing that I beat myself up on, I am 1/3 of the way up heading for a false summit that is soul crushing.

Same here! Looked at the forecast and thought I couldn't miss it, damn wind assaulted me all the way from Livermore to Blackhawk, not fun at all.
I was wearing our NCal Jersey, if you see me up there stop me and say hello.
Met Glen @ summit, awesome guy.

Cgallagh and I and another couple rode 47 mi., a very windy Gordon Valley loop. The headwind on the way home made it a brutal slog. Best part about the ride is that I got an early start on my tan lines.

Had the pleasure and the pain of dealing with a very windy HOPlite ride yesterday. The pleasure was riding my 50x12 like a hamster on speed down N Livermore with a monster tail wind in a group. Epic. Stole a KOM on strava for that
The pain, was battling the same monster wind up Collier. Still, what doesn't kill you...

With the great weather and the trails still in mid summer form, I had to hit the trails again. Since I had chosen P Ridge last weekend I did the Chabot loop on Saturday. It was pretty warm but a strong breeze kept it comfortable. My recently built up rigid fork hardtail has proven most fun. I rode 10 Hills to Brandon out to Bort meadow and back on Red Tail, even with the awesome weather I only found folks at the trailheads. Lots of bikes out though. On Sunday I did a quick loop in the Diablo Foothills and hit Stage Rd trail with it's awesome stream crossings. Then it was time for Super Bowl over-indulgence.

First legbender of the year for me yesterday.. Page Mill Rd, down West Alpine & through Pescadero to HWY 1 where I met and made friends with an unpleasant headwind. Then north to Tunitas Creek, quick break for a granola bar before the climb. The start and middle sections were fine but good grief, I thought the top would never come! Back down Kings Mountain and a gentle cruise home. Computer said 62 miles, Gmaps Pedometer said 61. The weather was stunning with super clear views all the way to the coast.
I was pretty wobbly legged when I got back, but today feel pretty good and rode to work. It was great to get out for a proper long ride, and it'll be a kick start to the seasons stamina.
Cheers,
Ed

Saturday was 40 miles of road from Granite Bay to Auburn and points in between. good fun.
Sunday was 20 mile MTB ride in and around Diablo and her foothills. The wind was actually a welcome relief as it pushed me up Wall Point.

Did Mt. Hamilton, front and back side to the bridge, and back. Not much mileage, 49 miles, but lots of climbing 7000+ feet. Ride report at https://sevencyclist.wordpress.com

Nice 3-day weekend for me!
Friday I headed out and rode part of the 2011 Tour of California route for stage 3. I'm already familiar with bits and pieces of it, but there were some roads new to me. Rode from home out to Oakdale and back, getting in around 30 miles. Bentley Rd. is in pretty bad shape with some potholes deep enough to swim in. There were also a disturbingly high number of dead goats on the side of the road.
This is out at Bentley Road and Patterson Road.
Saturday, a friend and I went out and rode the Turlock Lake Road Race route. Quite beautiful and challenging. While the overall climbing is only around 400 ft for one lap, a few of the gradients are very dramatic.
Los Cerritos Road in La Grange, CA.
When I was out photographing the Snelling RR and Merco last year, I decided I desperately wanted a picture of my bike leaning against this barn. Finally got it. Then I was attacked by two barn owls.
Hawkins Road heading back to Turlock Lake.
Turlock Lake... a beautiful setting for a road race. We capped off our ride by dipping our feet in the cool water and skipping rocks!
Word of advice... if you want to ride this route, they charge $10 for parking at the lake. If you drive east on Lake Rd, before you get to Los Cerritos Rd, there will be an area on the right where parking is free.
(This post could also be titled "Playing with Hipstamatic on my new iPhone because Verizon finally got a 3G data plan to work for me!")

Mt Hamilton up and down. First time I've ever been up. Great climb, but the last 5 miles really beat me down. Stuck in my 34x23 going 8-9mph... *cry* Did it in 95 minutes or so... Better next time!

Nice, I haven't done that yet.
Got a good weekend of riding in before the rain.
Saturday - Central Coast Circuit Race near Monterey. Awesome weather on a really fun course! Looking forward to doing this one again.
(wife took both those)
Sunday - Ride 1: Early Bird Crit #5. Super sketchy. I wasn't feeling it. Just there for my last cat 5 point.
Ride 2: 40 mile afternoon ride down Canada rd, Portola, Foothill, etc. Enjoying the weather and getting some miles in.
