Spotted: $400,000 24K gold plated road bike.

What do you get for the cyclist who has everything? (And we really mean everything.) How about a gold plated bike. Just in time for Christmas! I've seen gold chains before, but not cassettes, derailleurs, and spokes.

That's bling with a capital B! Don't ride it, you'll rub off the gold! For that money I'd expect a lugged steel frame.

I wonder how it would look in front of a white garage door.

Apparently they ran out of cash, the bar tape looks like it stops at the shifter/brake hoods

It might be priced at $400,000 but the number is just marketing hype. If it ever sells, it will never hit that figure.

Apparently it's got Sora on it. And a sloping top tube? Just looks trashy.

I'll admit it doesn't look good, but somehow it looks better than the tacky carbon framed advertising billboards that are so popular.

Interesting -- this is the opposite of 1960s spring taping, in which the bottom half of the bar, not the top, was covered. My brother's 1962 Bianchi came with sprint tape, as did a few Capo models of the same vintage and the early 1970s Peugeot AO-8. I tried it for awhile on my 1959 Capo and liked the period-appropriate look, particularly with the handlebar-mounted water bottles, but I have since reverted to full tape.

Am I the only one thinking about how quick those brakes will eat through the gold plating on the rim of that bicycle?

And picking Sora for that is also puzzling to me. If you're going for Billionaire Bling, you should make your choice of components as high class as your choice of metal cladding...

Flip it and slam it, I'll save the 41 guys the trouble of commenting on the stem. Must be a 50+ cyclist's bicycle.

You'd think that it would have pedals.

For 400k you don't need pedals; it comes with someone to push you.

A few observations

No gold plated peddles or bottle cages. The rear derailleur cable housing is not properly seated in the chainstay stop. Did you notice that the cable-end crimp caps are gold plated but the tire valve caps are not? No bar tape on the drops. Oh, and did you notice the one chain link that was not gold plated? No, this bike is not for riding, there would be gold flakes all over the road, but it would look pretty hanging on the wall. My wife said it would not be under the tree. Must be on back-order. ;-)
