I'm all year when it's clear enough on the routes I take, the winds are favorable, & I don't see salt/plow city trucks on the move.

I also ride (road) through the winter. I'll go out down into the 20's. I spent one winter riding my trainer indoors and it about drove me crazy so I got the necessary clothes and just went out. Don't do real long rides, just try to maintain conditioning so I can start ramping up the mileage by the 2nd half of March. For me, it's kind of a mental thing and I find I can fool myself into not minding riding in the colder weather. Having said that, I will be glad when it gets warmer.

Cycling is for life, not just for summer.
The weather gets interesting. Baseball caps essential for the rain. Proper deep frozen frost is grippy compared to light wet ice.

I'll do a club ride if the temp is predicted to go over 40F during the ride. Today's high was 20F, not counting wind chill.

My road bikes are off the streets until I no longer see road salt/salt residue on the roads. That doesn't mean that they are not used indoors during the 'off season' on my old-school rollers with a belt-driven wind resistance unit...
Here it is, the first week of March in NE Ohio and not only is it single-digit temperatures the past few mornings, but also there is still snow falling, so the roads are still getting salted. We're AVERAGING 20 degrees BELOW normal for the past few months (thanks Global Warming/Climate Change ) I don't know about you or where you live, but I'm looking forward to whenever it starts to warm up a bit...

Heading out on a century ride ... Feb 2005. I did a CAM (Century a Month) that year ... in Alberta.
My father joined me for some of it.

I ride year-round, but during the winter it's strictly for utility.
I still have to decide when I'm going to get the summer bikes back out, hang up the winter gear, and start going on recreational rides again. At the very least I wait for a good solid spring rain to wash the salt away. And I have to rearrange my garage so I can get at those bikes. After a week like this, anything is going to seem warm.

Once the temperatures have been above 0 for an extended period of time and all the snow is gone I'll get out on my bike again.

If I stop for any extended period of time I find it extremely difficult to start again. Just staying in the habit of getting my bike out to go to work each day and putting up with the really bad weather means that any day with even marginally less bad weather is a joyful occasion.

30 days of biking
I use 30 Days of Biking in April to help me re-form the habit of biking every day. The first year I participated I saw all kinds of crazy weather, snow included! Biking in WI can be unpredictable!

I like to see temps hit 65° F before I hit the roads again in the spring. In the fall I will keep riding down to about 55°. The older I get, the more temperature sensitive I become.

When I was commuting, I'd slow down at -35C to avoid freezing my lungs, and that turned the furnace down, so I wouldn't ride far. I also would not ride on powder concealing icy ruts. There are drivers who will tailgate me under any conditions. Apart from that, ice and snow were just good sport. I'd lower my seat a bit when it got really slippy, so I could get a foot down faster and slide along as a tripod until I could regain more control. Even seat-high, I've ridden skinny tires when pedestrians were falling on ice.
Now, riding only for exercise, I don't generally go out until it is over 5C. (40F)

Being in Northern VA I try to go out as much as I can but once temps start getting into the 30s I have to give up. If I can get myself some better gloves and face cover I might be able to do more but right now that is my limit Plus that is when wetter weather starts to come in and the trails get really muddy and grip is tough, I also feel like all I'm doing is damaging the trails.

Waiting for clear roads and 40+ degrees. Perhaps later this April?

I used to have 45 F as my limit, but lately it’s gone lower. Now looking at high 30’s or low 40’s if either the sun is out or the wind is low. Otherwise, I use a triple action stationary bike and get bored quickly. After a few days or a week, I think about changing my limit.

This is a neat concept/idea. Do you find you have enough daylight hours to get out on your bike when you get home from work? Those rides, how long/far would they be?

Thats the beauty of 30 Days of Biking- you literally can take your bike around the block and that counts for a ride. The point isn’t the length of the ride, it’s to get you thinking about biking as a part of your day. The second year I participated while pregnant I did a lot of stationary biking on icy days. Otherwise I just substituted one car trip a day with biking- commuting to work, running errands, taking my kids to the park etc.

I generally ride for local transportation all winter. We have several Dutch Opafiets and Omafiets so I stick a Schwalbe Marathon Winter studded tyre on the front of a couple for my wife and I and then when I/we/she head out each day decide if studded or not. I use to put studs on front & rear but found that wasn't really necessary and since the rear is a pain then the front it is.
As to temps... Since I wear normal clothes on my omafiets then I stay as warm and comfortable as if I were walking. I rarely ride if it's below 0°f though. I'm good for 2-3 miles each way above 0 which gets me to a few different cafés, grocery, pharmacy, etc on protected bikeways that are usually cleared by early morning. I'll do just about any distance when it's above 20°f though wind/rain/snow might change that.
For training type rides on a road bike (Scott Addict is current fav) I prefer upper +35°f though I've been known to wuss out unless it's 50°f or better. So in Minnesota that usually means no riding from late Nov until mid March most years.
