Last time you bought a bike at a bike shop for yourself?

May or June of 1990. I bought the least-expensive mountain bike the Schwinn store had, because it was all I could afford: a Cignal Shenango. I think it cost around $185 or so.
Here's one from the internet. Bright, fluorescent colors were "in" then, both on bicycles and guitars (my other hobby). Mine was white.

Shop bought bikes
Trek 710
My first was a white 10 speed bought with paper route money from The May Company sometime in the early 70's. Not sure of the manufacturer but I remember I paid around $100.00, my dad was upset. He worked fro GM and thought I should save for a car. When I went into the Navy my older sister took it to collage and it never returned.
My second was a 25" blue Centurion Omega with kickstand (I was still learning back then) $176.96 in 78. Bought right when I was discharged (honorable). I left it in San Diego fully intending to go back from Cleveland to bring it back with me but I never did.
My third was a 27" black Kabuki in 79. I loved that bike even though it was way too tall for me. I think the dealer had it and couldn't get rid of it and saw me coming. Anyway I was involved in a head on crash while riding home on a one way street, the wrong way, and it was bent at the down tube and seat tube. I wish I had kept the frame it would make for a great conversation piece.
My last was a 24" (my size) Trek 710 in March of 83. the receipt says its a 82 but the serial number puts it a a 81. I bought the frame and fork and used some of the parts off my Kabuki for the build. The shop built it for me but I've rebuilt it several times over the years. I still have it, several paint jobs later. Its been stolen and recovered, and I registered it with the Chicago Police in 93 after recovery. It now is probably a 719 with all Dura Ace components.

Kabuki

Been there, never done that!
I've assisted with classes that have done the steps. I've never done them and don't ever plan to do it. Its really a crowd pleaser when we get a class to do it. The tourists all are amazed...

Actually, it was about a month ago. I bought a used Trek 330 WS to strip all the components off of it to use on a Fuji Ace frame that was given to me. It is my winter project.

Now if my life still included talking with Marketing folks on a regular basis, I’d bring this thread up with them. I think it might make them raise their heads out of their smartphones for a minute or two.

How could I forget not mentioning and Vintage content?!
1: Acquired from a bike shop in 2018 a brand NEW 1985 full Campy equipped Ochsner.
2: Also, from the same shop and time, a N.O.S. vintage and choice cool, Miyata Elevation 1000 MTB full rigid. Picked it up for a friend whom is most happy.
Both were >>> incredible <<< buys.
And maybe a third:
From the same store, I know where an early N.O.S. Bontrager went and yet may end up with it. Perfect new with Panaracer Smokes and Shimano XT.

1973(4?) Opaque blue World Voyageur. Bought from the Schwinn dealership in Johnstown, PA where I'd gotten my Super Sport a few years earlier. And I managed to talk the dealer into selling to me in the box, as shipped. That was a fight. Dad hauled it up to me in Erie a few weeks later (there was no way in hell that box was fitting in my Vega GT hatchback), and I already knew the changes I wanted to do to it before I started serious touring. So it made no sense to have the dealer build it up for me, only for me to tear it down immediately. I never rode the bike factory stock.
And how does one talk a Schwinn dealer into selling you a 'bike in a box' (a franchise-losing no-no back in those days)? "Well, it doesn't say Schwinn on the frame, so it's not a Schwinn."
That was the only Voyageur he got in, as there was no market for a bicycle that expensive back in 1973 Johnstown, PA.
I'll admit I got really tempted this past spring when the local Performance Bike closed down, and came close on two occasions during the close out sale to wheel one up to the register. There were a couple of Fuji road bikes that had me mildly tempted. Then it came down to either spending the money on a new Fuji, or the Super Record bits I needed to get the third Rossin on the road. Put that way, it was no contest.

Bought two new bikes at LBS, last one in 1972 - PX10.
Didn't buy myself another bike for 42 years. However, I still patronize nearby shops.

1988...bought my Crest Cannondale..
...but my proudest moment was at age 14, buying a Bianchi Randonneur and that summer going off on my own on a bike-packing tour of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts
Oops...then 1993 when I bought my ex wife a Specialized Rockhopper....that doesn't exist, though...

1996 Cramerotti ELOS with full campy Chorus 8 and Italmanubri stem/bar combo, Rolls saddle. Open 4 CD rims with Conti GP's.
So stiff it hurt.
But the transmission was as good as it gets.

I have bought several from an actual bike shop. Most recently, pooh, pooh all you want, a Bianchi Pista Chrome single speed at a much reduced price. The little shop was super friendly, had helped me out with an emergency repair and installed some lights on my bike so I bought a bike from them. Though I have had it only a few weeks it is already transforming into a much lighter, more custom machine. I do not think I have ever bought a bicycle, new or used, that I did not significantly modify or upgrade so I take that into account.
Upgrades completed or underway:
New wheels and 23mm tires and Mavic Open Pro rims (red sidewalls) and butted spokes and Origin8 cartridge hubs
Red Cinelli cork tape
Shimano SL pedals (was Wellgo)
Cinelli alloy track bars (were steel standard track bars)
100mm stem (was 120)
Lightweight tubes
Shimano aero type brake levers*(maybe)

Phew, I was about 16 - too long ago to remember! Back then I lived in Albany. I happened to be in the area one day and I was hunting for a better bike. I recall that we had it shipped to the Schenectady store for pickup, but even that was off my beaten path.

I bought this thing in August 2017. It's a 2018 Specialized Fuse Comp. Only bike I've ever bought new. Employee deal through a Spec sales promo, basically free (I ended up paying $4 haha)

I was in Albany for a reunion 2 weekends ago and was reminiscing about going off the road in a blizzard. Typical upstate winter. Here's one of the few pictures from that era. I didn't take many photos of that Zeus, I regret that now.
