Upgrading to a Category 1 in one season. How hard is it to go pro?
So, I'm new to the cycling world. Just started racing this year, and after 10 races upgraded to a 2. Now, I'm already working on my one, and hope to have it by July. Any stories on making it to a 1 in one season. Or advice on how to sign a pro deal? Thanks!

Started last summer on the mountain bike and raced twice earning a pro license. Thinking about trying some more cyclocross. Any stories on making it to a 1 in one season. Or advice on how to sign a pro deal? Thanks!

Clearly, new to the forum as well. Is there a way to move the thread? Eastern USA. Male. 22 years old. Racing age 23.

Thank you for moving it. Sounding as humble as possible. I soloed away the first four races in Cat 4/5 then Cat 3/4 Fields. Consistently have been landing top 10 in Pro 123 fields, and won a 2/3 race. It's all happening so fast. Was just looking for some similar experiences.

Interesting. Thanks for the advice. Also, you're right with the dangerous part Botto. A lot of guys I ride with seem to not be able to ride their bikes very well at times!

if you're that good, people will notice you and you'll end up on a top local or regional squad, which if you continue successfully will put you in position to compete on a more national level. this in turn will give you the opportunity to perform in front of more people and if you continue with that kind of success and promote yourself, you and pro teams will find each other.
i've seen 2 people go on a similarly rapid trajectory. they're both younger than you, at least 1 is. they started on a local squad, got to a national developmental type squad (like hot tubes or trek/bontrager) and then the pro teams found them.

come to think of it, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, though you seem to be doing a horrible job at plagiarizing
i'm just surprised that no local USAC rep has identified the talent that you truly are and linked you up with an elite amateur team. Perhaps it's because your story is unbelievable?

here's a pro tip on lying: at least make sure your stories are consistent.
edit: i take back the jabs as you could be this guy: [edit, url deleted], but you don't seriously think anyone was gonna take you seriously when you said you went from 5 to 2 in 10 races, did you?

If you want to turn pro, know that it's a hard game, and takes a lot of dedication. If you make it to the top, the money is pretty good though, and some people really enjoy the lifestyle. You gotta put up with a lot of jerks along the way. Here's quick educational video:

You're right. My life is so boring I came on here to make up a story. Sorry for inquiring. Clearly not the right place to ask.
