Bimotal Elevate
New system for DIY e-MTB attaches to rear disc mount and replaces the disc with a geared unit. System with a 250 watt battery reportedly weighs 5.9 pounds, can be removed or replaced in five seconds and costs $1950. Only throttle and no blue tooth at this time. I might be interested when PAS is incorporated (bimotal.com).

Good to see an individual basically "throwing out the cookbook" and trying something new. I don't need the quick release, but having a very light unit is attractive.

in the video, the guy puts it on during a ride, so maybe a mechanic isn't needed?

Appears as though the disc / gear unit is installed and can be left on until you decide to install the motor / controller which requires 20 seconds according to them. The battery looks like it just plugs in too

I can't help but think that external drive gear is going to be noisy.
and, fine fine print down there, ESTIMATED PRICE: $1950 .... $2000 for a direct drive non-torque-sensing setup with a tiny battery? meh.

They're expecting 50nm ot torque nominal with peak of 100nm. Pretty powerful and can be used front and/or back. Initially speed can be set for 28mph.

Way too expensive. Battery too small. I believe they can get only 20 cells into those little bottle batteries for 36V. To get the 26 cells for 48V, they would have to go up to the next size,

just for reference, I just ordered a TSDZ2 middrive kit, 52V 14AH battery (thats like 730 watt*hours or something, built with Samsung 3500E cells so its only 8 lbs), with a 750 watt torque sensing middrive (this replaces the crankset on your bike) and I got a bunch of extras, liek a 52-42 chainrings, and the nicer dashboard display panel, and upgraded to the opensource custom firmware, along with the computer cables so I can reprogram it).... this entire kit was about $1200 from a reputable US reseller (www.eco-bikes.com)
