UPDATE: the SouBitez FR lights have a "dibs" so YES they are off the list. I think I'm going to add a couple odd but free single items to spice things up (or sour the milk)!

Spindles

I have one maybe two in good shape.
I can measure them tomorrow if the spindle searchers are still searching.

ISO Rear Derailleur for 1977 Raleigh Super Course

I'm attempting to make a weekend rider from a 1977 Raleigh Super Course. All of the original parts are with it except the pedals, rear wheel and freewheel, and rear derailleur. I'd like to find an original SunTour Cyclone alloy rear derailleur for it. I looked up the Suntour Cyclone rd in velobase and found two types - one with a hanger and one without. It appears that the only difference between the two types is the hanger. All that I have seen for sale thus far do not have the hanger, but as best I can figure, I need one with a hanger. I've attached pics of the rear dropout and the two rd's I found on velobase.

Q - Are the hangers available separately, or should I keep looking for the type with the hanger?

Please PM if you have one for sale or trade.

The rd hanger was available separately; the Cyclone rd just screws on to it.

I may have a Suntour hanger in my stash. Let me know if that is the way you want to go.

I don't think that the Super Course was fitted with Cyclones until the model was made with forged Sun Tour dropouts and it came in either red or gold (no chrome). That model did appear in the 1977 catalogue, but I don't think that's what you have.

The preceding year's catalog lists the Huret Challenger as the derailleur that was equipped.

This said, I wouldn't blame you for wanting a Cyclone. They are a great derailleur - just not original to your bicycle.

Thanks to Mark Bulgier, and our own Kurt Kaminer for the catalog scans.

Thank for your reply. The serial number identifies it as a 1977 frame. Seems it was November of 1977. The color that I found under the brown paint does seem to be too dark of a red for that year, but it may have been painted twice. Most of the parts that were on it when it came into my possession are shown as original equipment for a 1977 Super Course, such as SunTour bar end shifters, SunTour alloy front derailleur, Raleigh Weinmann caliper brakes and centerpull levers, Weinmann A124 700c concave front rim laced to an Atom small flange hub, and Raleigh/SR crank set. What did not match were pedals (had Campy Gran Sport pedals, not Atom 440 alloy barrel), seat post ( had a 1" undersized steel post with duct tape taking up the slack), saddle (don't ask), rear rim and hub (Campy Victory hub laced to Mavic Argent rim). I'm open to any ideas you may have about it.

I'm quite certain mine had a Suntour V Luxe, perhaps Raleigh branded along with cranks. But Canada often got different specs.
I'd go with a V GT Luxe to get some greater range.

If the serial is in the convention of W@7#####, then I would expect it to be the version with forged rear dropouts, no chrome and have come with a Cyclone derailleur. All the components you've described as original were on my 1978 Super Course when I got it new in 1978 - and it was also otherwise specced as indicated in the 1977 and 1978 catalogs. I do have to say that I have a couple of 1970's Raleighs that have some curious features (for example a 1971/2 Competition in lilac (a known thing) but with stamped, rather than forged dropouts and a serial number that suggests that it was built in Nottingham, rather than Worksop (where the cool bikes got built at the time). With Raleigh, many unexpected things are possible, so I don't think it's likely to completely rule out the possibility that you have a 1977 frame.

The s/n is WH7004XXX, so June 1977 Worksop frame according to the info at The Headbadge .

Must have been a special order or something. Right up there with my Competition and my Grand Sports that has no serial number anywhere on the "hard to explain" scale.

Drop me a line. I have more than a couple I can part with. Chrome. Not NOS, but a variety of usable conditions, braze-on and clamp-on.

PS - does it need to be specifically HURET, or is SACHS-HURET branded also OK? I have several S-H "Club" fronts also, if I recall.

#USAZorro , I didn't see your original ISO, but you can have this for price of shipping. It does need a cage end assembly, however.

Thanks. As I was re-re-re-organizing, I found exactly what I was looking for with the FD.

I do have a question that you may know the answer to though. Do you know what make good substitutes for the MAFAC RACER brake pads (the ones with a post that adjust rather like cantilever brakes?

Still looking for a 3 (or 6) arm 116 BCD small chainring if anybody has one for offer.

Do you still have the pad holders? If yes, I have more than 200 pairs of spares I received, sealed in plastic,, so not over-hardened. I've been randomly gifting these to various people when sending them little French bits here and there since I signed up on BF. If you still have your pad holders and don't mind sliding in new blocks, I'm happy to ship you a little something.

Only thing I'm really hunting right now is a Suntour Vx clamp-on front mech in great-to-fabulous shape ala VeloBase.com - Component: SunTour Vx

Although, TBH, I don't need anything on trade for these. They're yours, just PM me where to ship if they'll help.

I do have the holders. I do have a Vx clamp on, but it falls far short of the condition you're seeking - in fact it presently seems frozen (will have to give it som attention one of these days)

I'll be sending you a pm. If you think of something else that might be useful, or just cool to have on hand, let me know and I'll check.

Thanks

They're on the way! Don't sweat the Vx mech, I have one that's in rider condition, was just looking for something a bit nicer for this specific bike. Other than that, and maybe my yet unfulfilled need for a Shimano 68x116 spindle, I'm surprisingly lacking nothing much at all. Ever since I purged half my stuff, I'm lacking the need for extra bits and bobbles. I'd really, really love to get my Grand Record up and repacked (lacking that spindle) if anyone can help. Had a fellow BF'er willing to help, but I think they got lost in the fray of life.

I am not an expert on BBs, but I did just check and see that I have a dark metal Shimano 68 cotterless BB that's 116mm from end to end. If this is what you are looking for, let me know and I'll send it in return.

If it's not pitted and looks like remotely like the spindle you see in the thread I linked, it's exactly what I need! How awesome would that be?

Already have the cups, so don't need the whole BB. Will save on shipping etc.

Good thing. I don't think I can match it to cups.

It's marked:

SHIMANO
68 = T = 11Z5
D - 3A MB
CrMo

Looks about the same otherwise - but no pitting.

It's bound to be closer than what I've got currently, not 100% sure the left/right will be exact measures but if it's within a millimeter on either side, I think I'll be alright. I can take some measurements tonight if you want to confirm.

I know another member with an exact match, but can't wait any more. This is the pic I was talking about:

Looking for someone in Houston to facilitate a bike transfer for a friend of mine in Charlotte, NC. Posted in the facilitators thread but that doesn't seem to get much traffic. Am I doing it wrong?

You posted correctly but all its takes now is a little bit of patience in getting the right person to be able to facilitate.
