Did you apologize when hitting the pedestrian? Was the apology recorded in any way? If so, you may be SOL.

Bikes: A few older US made Cannondales, a modern Soma Saga (no longer made, alas!), and one gifted crabon Specialized. Never enough.

I agree with my co-counsel here.
However, if you must hit pedestrians, be sure to back up, and hit them again, so that they cannot testify against you.
Then call me.
I'm kidding, of course.
Don't call, text. I might be busy.

BTW, I have found that bikes aren't particularly good for chasing ambulances.

To all those that keep repeating that this is not the place to seek advice on attorney recs are living proof that this is not the place.
So if you ever get hit by a car and survive or are involved in a crash I strongly recommend you don't revisit this thread.
To all those that have given great recs and advice are the reason they are wrong.
Happy riding.

What do you mean he hit a pedestrian? I mean he hit a pedestrian but that pedestrian had dealings in the Ukraine and even though he hit the pedestrian he hit a lot of other things and he did the right thing in hitting that pedestrian because some one else would have hit that pedestrian worse.

Also, as a lawyer, I can tell you it's a really, really bad idea to admit you hit a pedestrian on a social media site. You did that in the op, y'know. Just hope someone doesn't figure out who you are. I can think of two people who have a lot of incentive to track that admission down.

I'm not a lawyer. Heck, I didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I tend to think this isn't necessarily true, at least in my neck of the woods. Pedestrians still have some responsibility when crossing the road. They can't just wantonly step into a travel lane without repercussions if they get hit. If they're in a crosswalk, they're covered outside of that, they should be held responsible for their actions.

I guess you don't have insurance, or you wouldn't be posting this question here. Don't go to the yellow pages; unless you are suing someone, most of these guys won't even take your call. If you are a student, your school should have a contact list for attorneys and such, and all cities (or counties or states) have a legal aid office of some kind which can refer you to a lawyer.
You can also try to work out something directly with the victim in this case. If he sues you, in the end he is not going to end up with much money. His lawyer will take at least one-third of any award or settlement as his fee, and then add expenses. These expenses often add up to another one-third. If the victim gets a $10,000 award, he will likely see around $3000 of it. If you negotiate to pay him the $3000 directly, he gets the same amount as he would have gotten using a lawyer, but you pay thousands less than you otherwise would.

Well, facts are facts and neither of us knows what they are, but it would take some pretty extreme ones for the cyclist not to have the primary responsibility here. My job is to predict judges and juries, and I'm pretty sure the cyclist is coming to the plate with 2 strikes.
Remember, I'm giving odds, not saying it's an absolute certainly.

Definitely true tort defense lawyers generally work for the insurance company or the insured. You can't do contingency fee on defense, so you're going to need a big retainer.

He hit a pedestrian but it wasn't a pedestrian. I never said he hit a pedestrian. Did you ever consider the possibility that the pedestrian hit him? How do we know the pedestrian wasn't secretly riding a bike? Right now I'm investigating an Iranian secret bike connection. Yes, but this time make it a double and keep 'em coming. Sorry, what was I saying?
