Advise for Dog carrier on Hybrid bike

Hi Friends,

I am new to this thread and a new biker. I just purchased a Giant escape 2 and plan to take my 14 kg dog on the bike. My cycle shop recommended that I fit a rear carrier and fit a basket - tighten this to the carrier and use this as a means. This sounds like a practical suggestion. I checked for other alternatives online - one being front carrier racks - but they can only seat a 5kg pet and anything heavier will be not-suitable.

Do any of you have experience carrying a medium sized pet on your bike? Any recommendations/ suggestions will be very helpful for me at this stage

Thanks everyone.

Magee gets to ride in a trailer and he is only 7.5 kg. I can't imagine an even larger dog would be happy in a carrier... not enough room to move around, plus the weight up that high would likely make your bike less stable. I found my used Burley trailer on CL for $50.

I recently ordered a custom license plate with Magee's name on it to hang on back.

>30lb is likely beyond the capacity of many carriers. Add the fact that the >30lb is likely moving around could make for a very squirrelly ride. I second the trailer suggestion

Understand. Magee seems to enjoy this ride. I like this option 2. Need to check for a used trailer then. Thank you my friend
