Riding a double pace line with your club on an MUP is in itself no problem. Perhaps if you did not intend to rant against this particular thing, you should not have started your post with "What the hell is up with club rides on on MUP?"

Vain, But Lacking Talent
We had a Tom Thumb near us when we lived in Arlington and they always had really good sales and excellent customer service. It was always clean and well organized.
We moved to Denton, which strangely has a Kroger on the north side, which is really more "central" Denton, and then one on the south side. And that's really just about it. The central one, which is close to where I live, got a makeover just over a decade ago and is constantly slammed. I went there once on Superbowl Sunday and thought, "This is the absolute busiest I've ever seen this place." Then I happened to go there on a random Tuesday evening and it was even busier. It just doesn't stop.
There is also a Brookshires and Albertsons in town, but their locations and relatively higher cost just don't make them worth stopping at. They have always been really quiet when I do go there.
If someone could find the funding to make an HEB or something happen in Denton, it would seriously shake things up. I almost feel like the people at Kroger's would appreciate it so they could actually breath from time to time.

Sure. And nobody would disagree with you if your rant was directed towards cyclists riding an unsafe speed for conditions. Can YOU see that difference?

Maybe you should try reading more than one sentence before you get butthurt.

Since you obviously have a problem with reading comprehension, I'll repeat: a group of about 20 roadies in a double pace line, probably doing 22-25 mph. On the MUP. On a holiday weekend morning.

Lol. Sorry. I thought your rant was about the club rides being on MUPs. Funny how the meaning of the words you use lead people to believe that you are talking/ranting/raving/writing/whatever about the subject you use in your sentence. Obviously my bad. Carry on ranting. Throw some raving in for good measure. Why not?

On board ship this morning my SIL and I attended a Riedel wine glass comparison event. Both of us have had Riedel for years, and have really like them pretty much just for looks and simplicity. In fact we both unloaded our Waterford cut crystal on ebay when we saw how attractive the Riedel was. But I don't think either of us really bought into the "grape specific" marketing hype. We just like them. But after today we are true believers. We were amazed by difference the right glasses made when matched to a selection of wine varieties. The proper glass suppressed the unattractive characteristics of each wine and really enhanced the desirable aspects. I was very impressed.
We had to pay $87 each for the event, but each admission came with a coupon for four free glasses to be ordered online. So the deal was much better than break even. Four glasses is just about what we need to fill in holes in our collections due to breakage.

Speaking of wine, I watched a documentary called Somm the other day on Netflix. It follows a group of guys studying for the master sommelier certification. It's really kind of incredible to watch someone with that much experience and knowledge doing a blind tasting, to be able to identify all of these flavors and aromas and have to narrow the wine down to varietal and region and even year/label. I'm at a level where I can basically taste blind and know whether it's white or red, and that's it.

And speaking of bikes, I'm finally going to race for the first time this year next Sunday. I've had a parade of excuses thus far this year but I'm finally out of them and decided to buck up and register for 2 fields at a local circuit race (3/4 and 4/5).
Hopefully it doesn't rain

I bought a 4-pack of Riedel glasses about 3 years ago and finally just broke the last remaining glass a couple weeks ago. Lesson learned with buying expensive wine glasses, I just can't manage to hand-wash them without breaking them through stupidity.

I blind test on whether it burns going down or is tasty. It's an elementary quality test. I need to watch that documentary. I already have a big ole to do list after work:
1. drink 1/2 off $3 beers.
2. apply to kroger (after drinking $3 beers)
3. pay my rent
4. watch som?
when your bike is broken you're supposed to drink instead right?

So I finally ordered the part to repair the rear window on the BMW. I don't know if I'm supposed to be upset that they made a plastic part that can fail so easily, or be impressed by the fact that they made a weak link in the system that can break and be replaced for roughly 50 bucks as opposed to putting direct strain on something expensive like the regulator. Either way, I am again happy that I am a person who is not afraid to work on cars because I can imagine the repair bill for something like this which is really a simple job.

As far as buying nice glasses, I spend money to make sure things are less likely to break. Expensive, glass? Is an oxymoron to me. Sorry bud.

Historically, I ride a portion of our MUP (Onondaga Lake Park) on my bicycle commute home. It will usually be about 4 pm, and the MUP denizens are walkers and roller bladers, and folks on MTB/hybrids, apparently out enjoying the day or exercising or whatever. I don't really care what they are doing, as I am just trying to survive my ride home.
Of late, one of our group ride members has moved out of the vicinity, and I will occasionally ride back toward his place with him post ride, and use the MUP to get home, at about 10 am weekend mornings. I have now encountered a new creature on the MUP, and it is the fully kitted road cyclist, on road bikes, either alone or in pairs, blasting along on the MUP, often with headphones in place. And they make me wonder:
1. Are these people like me, who are using the MUP as a point to point conveyance as part of a ride?
2. Will the sum total of their ride be on the MUP, and since it isn't a loop, going back and forth? Do they suit up specifically and solely to be on the MUP?
It doesn't make a difference, but it has crept in as a curiosity.
