20 miles (32.2k), the sun peeked thru a couple of times but mostly cloudy. Considerably warmer (50°), got windy near the end of the ride. Cycling buddy bought some Shoe Goo, I'll take 5 wheels over there tomorrow and patch the cuts in the tires.

26 tandem miles on our first club ride of 2017, starting/stopping at Falls Creek Park in Pendleton, IN. Mostly rural, and included riding past the state Pendleton Correctional Facility. Glad to be on the outside of the double razor wire fencing.

20.5 miles (33k) on a cold but sunny morning. Looks like the Monday group I sometimes ride with decided it wasn't too cold after all. Passed them on the bike path.

23 miles of hill climb repeats. Lovely cool late afternoon, just a little breeze. Averaged 14 mph, not particularly fast but my fastest time over this route.

13 miles after work. Second local ride of the season, sure feels nice to be off the trainer and back on the road.

I did my usual 14 mile training ride. Some muddy spots I usually avoid, I was inspired to splash through today, like a kid. I came home with muck on my glasses and a smile in my soul.

I did my usual 53 miler Sunday. Typical gusty tradewind weather. Coming back towards home from the North Shore I have a 1000 ft climb up "pineapple hill" but by then there was cloud cover which made it not so bad. Once over the top it's rolling terrain with a net 400 ft loss until I get back home. But as I approached the plantation town of Wahiawa, passed a bad accident. I didn't want to gawk but saw a bicycle wedged under the front bumper of a pickup on the opposite side. It didn't look mangled but news report was rider "crossed the centerline" and was thrown 4 feet in the air. It was right at the entrance to a narrow bridge where you have to take the lane. I don't consider it a big deal, as it is at the bottom of a gulch so no problem doing 25-30 mph there, more or less just going with the flow of traffic (though sometimes traffic backs up so you have to keep your eyes open). But there are homeless camps in that area, and the bike did look like the typical "transportation cyclist" bike homeless use (though they seem to most often be pushing bicycles rather than riding them). They do seem to prefer riding salmon, and there is no effing way you could salmon across that bridge. So just a guess about what might have happened, but really just that. Haven't heard in the news how badly injured the rider was. So ride safe out there.

I had a really good ride this morning even with the high temperature and high humidity that felt like a day in June. Rode 40 miles split between riding with my buddy and riding solo.

Tomorrow, around noon, Amanda Coker will surpass the men's distance record and will make her the overall annual distance world record holder. I plan to be there and ride with her when she does that since I rode with her when she broke the women's annual distance record, back in September.

We got almost 6" of rain in SW Alachua Co., which we needed desperately, but no chance for an outside ride. 45 minutes on the elliptical instead.

Yes I did! And it was a great ride. Started out with my buddy Steve for a nice 25 mile ride. We got back to the parking lot for our break and were told that Amanda was heading in to pick up some of her friends waiting to ride her record breaking ride. Perfect timing! Steve had to leave so I joined the group with Amanda and rode the 22 miles needed to break Kurt Searvogal's annual mileage record. After that, this old man went home.

Stationary bike:
Tuesday, 4/4: 20 min., 6.7 miles
This morning (Wednesday): 20 min., 7.1 miles.
It should be really nice this weekend, so with any luck and a fixed rear tire, I should be able to take an actual road ride!

Way too windy here today. An hour on the stationary bike. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

24.3 miles (34.1k) total. Rode 19.5 (31.4k) this morning then took the other Tarmac over to Scheel's Sports Store to replace the bottom bracket. Hellacious 24mph wind on that 4.8 (7.7k) ride.

Waited until this morning's gusting 25 mph winds dropped to a fairly steady 12 mph, then rode 26 miles Wednesday evening. Averaged 14 mph despite trying to make this a relaxed pace to recover from pushing hard on a hilly route before. Must be a good sign that an average speed that used to feel exhausting now seems fairly casual.

Took a trip to Palm Harbor this morning for a breakfast with our finance guy then rode the Pinellas Trail north, eight miles past Tarpon Springs to Trinity. Very nice 21 mile out and back, especially since we've never been on the trail past Tarpon Springs.

15-20mph winds meant more cardio on the gym recumbent today. Supposed to peak tomorrow at 25+, so maybe no ride again tomorrow. At least it's blown all the humidity away. Perfect night sky and weekend looking great for the club ride.

It was ridiculously windy in Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor, yesterday. My wind app was showing 17 mph winds with 27 to 30 mph gusts. I can't believe my wife actually wanted to ride in those winds. We crossed over a fairly large lake along the route and the wind was so bad that the lake water was as choppy as being in the bay and had waves breaking on the shore. It appeared as if she didn't have as much problems with the wind on her recumbent trike as I did on my road bike while riding that slow.

Crazy winds again, 25+ as predicted. I won't ride in these conditions, so I haven't been out since Sunday, mostly due to high winds. The club ride tomorrow is a southern loop into Marion Co., with no wind predicted. Finally!!

18.5 miles at 14.5 mph during 17 mph cross and head winds this afternoon. For me, that's fast on this route. Last year I was stuck at a 12 mph average. I was actually trying to loaf a bit and not stress or strain too much, but I seem to have gotten past a plateau in conditioning. I might actually consider trying a road bike, or drop bar conversion, later this year. I'm at the point where my comfortable upright riding position is more of a limitation on this windy route.
