I got out for a 35-mile loop into the East Bay Hills above Berkeley. It was a gorgeous day. After a climb up Tunnell road, I followed the ridgeline south into Oakland.
Then I dropped down the hill via Butters, a twisty, single-lane road, and a favorite of mine.
Next, I looped around Lake Merritt, near downtown Oakland.
Then headed home via the Bay Trail along the SF Bay back into Berkeley.

They all had the distinctive (but butt ugly) Gipiemme rear dropouts as opposed to the top quality frames that came out of Bianchi's Reparto Corse Pro Shop with Campy dropouts.
In 2010 I picked up this NOS 1990 Mondiale frame. It was the same as some of the 2-3 other models made with Columbus SLX/SPX tubing except for a chromed DS chain stay and chrome dropouts. At that time, I was familiar with the "newer" Columbus tubing offerings so silly me I thought that SLX would be lighter and thus smoother riding than plain old SL.
I met the seller at a local frame builder's shop and had him check the alignment. He said "This is going to be STIFF"!
He was right! It fits me the same as my 88 Giro and handles the same but it's a 35 mile a day maximum bike! It climbs GREAT though!
Bianchi sold bare frame Mondiales without any model name decals.
Rigged up with climbing gears.
Bianchi played loose with component specs during those years depending on the intended market or who knows what. They came with both Shimano and Campy gruppos including Croce d'Aune on the 1989 & 90 Mondiale.
Now back to our regular programing...

I rode with some friends up to Artist Point at Mount Baker today
Group photo above White Salmon by NBend, on FlickrWe started in the town of Glacier. Basically a 40 mile out and back on Hwy 542 to the Mount Baker Ski Area, the views become spectacular starting at the lower “White Salmon” ski lodge at Mt. Baker.

Cannon Valley Trail
Sunday morning was a special treat; I drove down to Cannon Falls to ride the Cannon Valley Trail. Starting in Cannon Falls rather than Redwing gave me the opportunity to begin and end my ride at Nick's Downtown Diner. I got my favorite table, right by the window, where I could see my bike locked up outside:
"The Bomber" chili-cheese omelet was perfect fuel for the longish ride ahead.
After breakfast, I headed out on the trail. The green tag on the stem is what you get when you pay the user fee - $5 for the day, or $25 for the season.
After taking that shot next to the river, I hit the trail with my 70 year-old steed, and cranked it up to warp speed:
There are some idyllic spots along this trail:
Here's the wall at Welch, MN, the midway stop:
The obligatory shot of Cannon Falls:
Then me and my shadow rode back to town...
... and ended the ride at the same table in Nick's Diner:
That was a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday ride. I'm going to do it again once the leaves start turning.

Well, once again all I did was ride to and from work today. We had a power failure at work so they sent us home early. It was fairly warm. Round trip 35 miles. I need to stay in shape, and round is a shape. (The trip is much rounder than I am. I'm actually not very round at all., thanks to riding to and from work (and other things).)
I had a new experience last weekend. I was zipping along, passing some people and being passed by others. A paceline came by followed by another rider who though close to them was apparently not riding with them. As he rode by I heard "On your left, sir." Yow, am I that visibly a senior now? How, or when, did that happen? Since when did 70 become entitlement to a "Sir"?
I don't think I'm all that much slower than I used to be, to judge by the gears and cadence I run. Okay, maybe I am a little slower...nah. On the other hand, I rather enjoy being the target of deference.
People sometimes hold the door open for me when I'm going into the gym. (Like I can't open it myself?) Yeah, I could start enjoying this.

33 miles up and back two canyons, then out to Santa Paula, CA , snacks and coffee, then pretty stiff headwind coming back to Ventura. Great ride on the '78 Super Course. I expected hot weather so added a second bottle cage. Not needed, beautiful day to ride.
$20 CL find Super Course among the flowers.
Flower fields between Aliso and Wheeler Canyons, along Foothill Rd.
Pretty much the only steel in the bunch.
Downtown Santa Paula.

I honestly don't know much about the e-bikes. I'm only 70 and still enjoy being the motor. The Cannondale guy has been riding a carbon Roubaix for several years, and just got the E-bike because his wife just got one, following some kind of health issue. Her bike is the one with the wide whites below. There were 4 of them on our club ride today. They are all ridden by serious riders who have gotten a little older, and uh ... slower. They all seem to like them. One guy, not the Cannondale guy, told be he had 84% battery left after 30 something miles, which is more than I had left. Not C & V (though the riders are) but heres a few more e-pics.

Great ride
I had a wonderful morning. Preiarie Dogs, horses, a beach, and kids taking a bike safety class! I rode up and over "Mt Carbon" in Lakewood, CO and around the lake. Then back up the other side of the reservoir. Downhill all the way home after that. 22 miles, almost 1,000 of total elevation according to Map My Ride. Just a fantastic morning.

I finally got out and went for a nice bicycle ride around 9:00 - 9:15am this morning... I was always too busy driving my school bus for summer school, and would get home all exhausted, sweaty, and irritated from dealing with {expletive} kids that have serious attitude problems (which is why they are in summer school!)
Now that summer school is over, and we had a cool morning, I finally got out my C&V 1985 Fuji road bike and went for a great ride: 18.73 miles in 1hr 14 min. This is the map layout and Facebook link from Strava, that I posted earlier.
This photo is great, and so peaceful looking! This is from Blair Rd, from River Rd heading north up towards Patterson (as seen on the left side of the map above). It's a scenic back road that doesn't get much traffic. I just wish it looked like for 25-30 more miles!

70 miles today with a lot more climbing than I'm used to, 2700' total.
Steep rollers are brutal. They never let you recover and there is a 20 miles section on my route that was relentless.
Super slow 14.8mph average, but I did get to hit 40mph on one of the descents

Just took out my (new to me) pristine 1986 Fuji Sagres (the "Diamond Blue" colored one) out for it's christening.
I did the Madison Lake Loop, around Lake Monona. Just a very brief 13 mile ride to "dial things in". It's dreamy! It replaced my too large Falcon San Remo Super Route.
