I have had this experience with a car before, a Maserati Biturbo. Sexy machine, great noise, but a disappointing drive in Dutch traffic. Heavy steering, cumbersome handling. No fun.
Until I drove it to Austria one day, and got it beyond 120 mph on the German Autobahn. Then everything fell into place, and I understood what that car was about.
I still miss it.
