1980 Windsor Competition

circa 1980/81 Windsor Competition 10 speed
19 inch frame.
SunTour rear and Shimano front derailleurs
Arc-en-Ciel tubular rims
Universal Breaks
mechanically sound, cosmetically needs a bit of TLC. It’s been in dry storage for 35 years.

anyone? I can’t find much about it on the web.
thanks

I'm guessing, but it sounds to me that you have a Mexican Windsor. Sheldon Brown had the following to say:

Windsor

These were really fun bikes from Mexico. They made generous use of Campy parts, and the top-end frames were Cinelli knock-offs. When you see a Cinelli frame with holes-in-the-lugs, using a 27.2 seatpost, say "Windsor painted-like-Cinelli". There are more that just a few Windsors floating around out there with Cinelli decals. A Windsor is nice, but it isn't a Cinelli. Windsor frames tended to use fairly heavy tubing that made for a stiff but dead ride. Figure that an N.R. equipped Windsor in guideline condition should have a value of around $ 700. The Winsdor track bikes are very nice - in guideline condition they should be worth around $550.

Your best bet is to post pictures here. Yours is a small frame, that might limit the desirability somewhat. It also shows signs of not being equipped with all original parts.I doubt yours is worth anywhere near what Sheldon is quoting. I think he was talking about the "Cinelli knock-off" variety with top-of-the-line components.

I have the top of the line Windsor Pro which is the Cinelli copy and I LOVE that bike. It is very lively , so I disagree with Sheldon’s take on the bike. It is Columbus tubing with Campagnolo dropouts and fork tips. My bike was raced a lot in the seventies it is a 1973 full Campagnolo bike with Phil Woods hubs . I paid $300 for it about 2-3 years ago in good condition for its age and history. No dents or cracks and lots of paint wear , the chrome is fair. Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

Joe, this is great to hear, thanks. I agree it’s a pretty lively ride. Does your bike have sew-ups? I’m wondering of this is a limiting feature of mine, as well as it being on the small side.

My bike came with Super Champion 700c wheels that are clinchers. I am currently running 28c wide tires and I have a 25” frame. The handle bars and stem are first generation Cinelli. I hope this helps.

In slightly rough shape with just OK mixed components and essentially needing a wheel set with tires the rough tubulars with no tires would be a deal breaker for me. I would but the value as is at only a $100 or so. In really nice ready to ride with a good wheel set it would only be $200-250 bike, parts and labor it will about that much to put the bike back into nice riding shape.

This confirms what I was figuring @ about $100 as is. Thanks very much!

I think it's worth more. Certainly the parts are worth over $100. The tubulars hurt the value but for someone looking for an old bike to fix up, this bike is worth more like $150-$200. The parts group and frame are very nice. The condition is good.

Perhaps it was there and I missed it but where are you located? Location often affects pricing.

If just wanting to sell, you could start by overhauling that rear derailleur, polishing the slight rash, and listing it on ebay for $70ish.
