Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The borrowed wheel has a gatorskin 28 width tire on it. I pumped it up to 90 PSI (I generally run GP4000s in 23mm width and run them 95-105).

Should I start a thread asking if 90 is too much, too little, or just right??

We're watching the movie "Nevada Smith". According to IMDB the main character is supposed to be 16 years old. Entertainingly, they cast Steve McQueen, who has to be 35 if he's a day, as that character but didn't change any dialogue to reflect him being so much older. So you have people saying things like "Go on home, kid, while you still can" and "Now that you got no family, you ought to come live with us. After all, you're just a boy." A Millennial boy maybe.

Hehehe. They call me kid at work and then they catch themselves and they're like you're not a kid..but (I'm 60).. so you're a kid to me.

Did some time on the Farmington Canal trail here in CT...Didn't want to leave my bike outside the portapoopie. Who knew the handicapt was really just meant to take a pee with your bike beside you.

That should weigh about 1,290 g for the pair. If you want any aero effect and/or tubeless-ready, you can spring for CX-Ray spokes, the XR31T deeper, wider rim and reduce the spoke count to 20/24. About 1,420 g.

If you want the wider rims, but not 31 mm deep, you can go with the 25 mm deep Pacenti SL23s or Kinlin 279s and choose between 20/24 and 24/28 spokes. The Pacenti is tubeless-ready while the Kinlin isn't.

There are just so many questions that will determine your decision. Tubeless-ready or not necessarily for example.
I'll start with crazy light, and if it works out I'll maybe pick up some carbon tubular and do aero later.

Kinlin XR200 rims, 24/28 Laser spokes, Bitex hubs it is!

So I've been perusing the 'bikes' section on CL. This could be problematic. Took a lot of effort to stop myself from shooting off an inquiry on a Langster last night.

Raced with the 50+123's yesterday, and it was less than a stellar debut. Then I raced with the 40+3 kids, and fronting up to 18 years is pretty tough, but I didn't embarrass myself. This morning I get to race a figure 8 course with a combined field, which will be the 50+123, and the 40+3's. Yeah, it's gonna be fast.

CL is the devil. Same with Ebay. Perusing is dangerous.

See? Some days whilst killing time, I spend a few minutes in there. It turns into a black hole, and I realize time speeds up.

A buddy gets some amazing deals in the free section, though he knows how to play the game. A couple days ago, he picked up some of those (I think) Magna Plane speakers? 4'x6' flat speakers with some weird ribbons as the sound mechanism. While there, the guy threw in some tube amps. I don't have the patience, and also get sidetracked easily.

My wife and I crashed our tandem yesterday after a cat ran under our rear wheel. We,were, doing about 22-23 at the time and went down hard.

Besides the normal road rash, my wife has a broken pelvis and clavicle.I have a minimum of six broken ribs. Minimum because I've broken so many over the years that it was hard to separate the old and new on the X-rays.

So, we,are both in the hospital. One of my ribs is bad enough that I can't move. My wife has more xrays this am to see if she needs surgery for her pelvis.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear it. That is awful. Please keep us posted. I'm sitting here thinking, "What can I do? How can I help? Naturally there is nothing except to offer wishes for a speedy recovery for you both.

If I were to come across a similar deal in a CX/gravel, I would be mighty tempted, but something like this, which would be an outright replacement of the Jamis, isn't quite as dangerous.

That's a pretty awesome haul. Assuming they're Magnepans, they're made in MN.

OUCH! YIKES!!

Really sorry to hear of the calamity. Those are some significant injuries. Wishing you both a speedy recovery with a minimum of discomfort.
