Cat IV Gear Restrictions
at JBMV there is a 88 inch max gear restriction. The idea is to force everyone to have to ride in the pack and not just use superior Cat II road fitness and just ride off the front of the field. Some riders were getting into the Elite fields without a good understanding about how track racing works. Are there other tracks have gear restrictions for the lower categories?

This is a fantastic idea. What/where is JBMV?

I've heard of it before.
I've also seen it used to level the playing field in some scenarios. I've seen winter racing series and masters categories have gear restrictions. That way, people with elite strength can't just clean up every race.
When gears are restricted, legspeed is (generally) capped, so racing then becomes about tactics.

Major Taylor in Indianapolis imposes a 86.4 gear inch restriction on Cat V and IVs. The restriction is lifted when the IVs race with IIIs.
