Best MTB under 3k?
Looking for a mtb mainly gonna be using it for commuting about 70% of the time.The other 30% would be mostly forest trails, so nothing extreme like the downhill biking or extreme climbing, or jumping like 3 feet from a rock. This is why I want a bike that is still dirt friendly yet can be efficient when it comes to commuting on asphalt

I'd buy a sub-$500 used commuter and use the rest for a fun ride bike.
Recently purchased a commuter for $200 for that purpose.
