clipless pedal identification?

i seem to remember a clipless pedal system where the only part that remained on the bike was a small button-like nub. the rest was bolted to the shoe, and the effective pedal axle was beside the foot, not under it.

am i imagining things? or did/does this really exist? who made it? what was it called? anyone?

The only thing I've seen that looks like that is a Q/R pedal made for folding bikes:

Those are bizarre. I've never heard of them before. Has anyone tried them?

it will soon be the fastest selling product in the bike world
How long has it been out ?

If you look at the picture of the shoes there is actually a grey pedal in place, I don't think that 'button' is the pedal.

Downside is that it prevents you from jumping on your bike with a pair of sneakers for a quick ride to 7-11.

Other than that, I think it's just plain ugly.

First problem I see is that it appears any attempt to pull *up* on the pedal would detach your foot from the crank.
Second problem is I don't see how that assembly could be rigid enough to prevent the outer edge of the foot from rocking vertically, pivoting on the crank "button".
