His budget is probably not an issue. Neither is cost, as his deal with Trek provides him with bikes. Just like Nike provides him with shoes and clothing. The benefits of being a pro...

He probably rides prototype and custom bikes from Trek as well, so hard to even put a price tag on those, although he pays for them easily with his simply riding them. He probably doesn't have as many bikes as Robin Williams, though (50 plus as of a few years ago, hopefully the divorce left his fleet intact).

well, the top of the line Trek is over $9k.
so i'd say over $9k.
but, like everybody has pointed out, he doesn't pay anything.

His bike is obviously one of a kind. The head post is positioned exactly for how HE rides. The seat post as well. The seat itself is taken off a mold of HIS butt and carbon is shaped to it. The reach, stiffness of the carbon layup, etc. is positioned for exactly how HE rides it.
No different the Ferrari. Sure you can buy one but on race day, they're customized and tuned to the driver.

Allegedly, Armstrong rides pretty much off-the-shelf stuff unless he's testing new designs. What I believe constitutes most of his equipment cost is not the equipment per-se but the setup portion of the equipment. There have been many reports of Armstrong spending significant time in the wind tunnel refining his position to eke out that last bit of edge. Thus, you can spend $10K at any Trek dealer and get a Equinox TTX 9.9 SSL, but you won't get that refined fit and position that will allow you to optimize your performance. That last bit will probably cost you at least 10 times more, and Armstrong gets it for free (or at least his sponsors are footing that bill).
