Suicide King Alleycat - Charleston, SC - May 29th-31st

The alleycat is May 31st, but there will be a lot to do the whole weekend so come to town early for events like trick and skid competitions, follow the leader, bike polo, a preregistration party, art shows, etc.

First time to Charleston and don't have a place to crash? We've set up group rates at Notso Hostel. It'll be $19/night or $10 to camp.

There are some sick prize sponsors including 708 Cycling, Chrome, and Velocity.
Check out https://www.myspace.com/SuicideKingAlleycat for a full list of sponsors and a schedule of weekend activities.

I'll be there this weekend. Last time we stayed with Gabe and Staci, but I think we are going to hotel it this time to keep it more low-key. I have about 3-5 people coming with me.

If anyone wants to give me phone numbers so we can meet up for a brew, PM me. I am Jason (was there for the March Madness Alleycat ... long haired asian kid from Atlanta).

Right on.

Give Notso Hostel a call. Here's there website https://www.notsohostel.com/ They should give you the group rate of $19/night if you mention the alleycat. They also will let you camp for $10/night.

Great race, guys ... never done an alleycat like that before. After I flew down the slip and slide at the end and had a chance to cool down, we were chatting and one of the in-town guys said he had turned on this computer. As I am sure you know ... he measured the race at 40 miles (longest alleycat I have ever done) with an average speed of 22 MPH. INSANE. Some of the highlights for me and my friends were:

- The 6 mile suicide sprint down King. I felt this was a feature unique to Charleston, being so straight, flat, and the first half being mostly without stops. Few cities have access to a street like that. It was awesome. Gabe and I were drafting eachother for it and several times we thought we were just going to fall over from exhaustion.
- The bridge ... amazing view and with the crosswinds, I could literally feel the heat being lifted from my body. That climb was one of the most enjoyable I have ever done despite the constant burn in my legs. I hated having to get off my bike and run to the checkpoint but in retrospect that was really cool and I am glad you guys did it that way.

Some other memories: being afraid of flatting out in the graveyard, groaning as I received the THIRD manifest, biking 3 miles just to get to the start point from where we met up at Holy City Tattoo, being told I just just biked 40 miles (I thought we had ridden more like 25 miles.), the salt stains on my shirt after I dried off from the slip and slide, drinking water from a bottle faster than I could squeeze it out.

Oh yeah, and the burger I had at Moe's after the race.

Great job guys, this one will live in infamy for me.

the combination of the heat, sunburn from the day before, and 40 miles made this the gnarliest alleycat I've done. good race dudes.

Anyone know how fast we completed the 6 mile sprint down King? Curious as to the average time on that stretch. It felt like we totally bombed it.

Photos are up here and here. Left the CD of graveyard photos at home. Have them up shortly.

Glad this race made a positive impression.

Next time we'll have more water and snacks along the way.

On my way to the water front park, I remember saying "this is the longest 20 miles I've ever done" felt good to know what we did afterward though
