Embrace the Fred-dom
I'm looking forward to going back to that setup next summer.
Here it is in winter commute to work and school config:

i generally prefer to climb in the most upright position possible. you can generate more power.

aero benefits see greatily diminishing returns below like 15mph

they are gutted chorus shifters. if you google disassemble of campy ergos or similar, there are lots of videos about how to take the levers apart. essentially, you just take them apart and put them back together without the guts.

Or just buy Cane Creek levers, same ergonomics for a fraction of the price. Unless you already have the Campys, then go for it.

if you're talking about the cane creek scr-5, the are the same as the tektro r200a which can be had for even cheaper (i found this out after buying the Cane Creeks.. doh!)

I have both and I like the CC hoods better than the plain Tektro hoods. Not to say they're any better functionally, so if you're on a tight budget go with the Tektro.

You can google detailed pics, I don't know how to describe it but the Tektro hoods aren't smooth, while the CC's are smooth with the lizards. They both feel fine, I just prefer the CC.

The Tetro's do have a texture to the hoods that's like the Campy hoods, but I like the CCs better. If you can spring the few extra dollars I would recommend it. In the end either one is much cheaper than Campy.

^^ pretty much any part of the bike can be had in a cheaper, functional version. that goes without saying. the feel and operation of the real campy levers is different, and IMO better than both the cane creek and tektro levers. how do i know? - i own both and use them on different bikes. it's nice to have alternatives, but sometimes - its nice to have the real thing too.

Its a Brittany model. Found her in good condition considering how most neglected bikes get ravished by the salt air around here(that was when she was still a 12 speed).

I think they used some pretty good paint back then because a lot I see from the era are in nice shape. My Sunbird has a Made in Korea stamp on it. Don't see many Korean bikes. I might as well put a pic up cuz you don't see two Free Spirits on one page of this forum much either. I'm gonna pop a Shimano 600 HS in mine this Thursday, totally spoiling this bike.

Sweet conversion!
You might want to consider either foot retention or a stronger brake set up for safety's sake.
