Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? ahhh. ha. I'm stupid I suppose; I like abusing my body or at least challenging myself. I did 25 miles yesterday at 48x15 and I felt great considering its was the first time I've ridden over 10 miles since September. However I only averaged 16mph [I blame slow people & random intersections] but I am trying to get my strength back.

Anyways,
$45 for the chainring, I figured I can try it.

Tell me about it.
50x15 for mid to late season at the track.
46x16 for brevets and other long distance rides.
46x18 for downtown in heavy traffic.

46x16 is the highest gear I have on any of my street FG setups.

I took my Steamroller out for it's first real ride yesterday and I'm running 45x17 and find it's about as perfect a ratio there is for street riding.

Back on topic:

Shimano 17t freewheel
Origin8 aero road levers
Origin8 bar tape (white)

From Scrod.

This is a seriously good price for these cranks. Even cheaper than Amazon prices. Crazy.

I still need to build my wheels and I've been holding out for some vintage 3TTT bars & 3TTT Record stem but everything I'm finding on eBay is either too beat up or way too expensive. I may end up using Cinelli stuff for the time being because bars and a stem are all I need.

Oh, and this:

I bought some tape,

Got my seats robbed 2 times last summer even with everything bolted tight, That's an electric tape mods, so tight I need a swiss knife to cut it if I want to reach the bolt. Really, I tried to just remove it with my nails but the electric tape stick to the steels so hard ....

It now protect my red light and my Excalibur™ Fender rain gard from being stole too.

Its maybe ugly as **** but for a bike that I lock outside almost everyday downtown the tape as a theft proof score of 100%.

A Brooks Team Pro for my Slputnik, new in the box, $110 from a Craigslist seller. I expect it to be just what I've been wanting. Unfortunately, I'm sidelined for about 5 more days due to recovery from surgery on my face. If I break the doc's rules and the scar winds up being a problem, my wife will kill me.
