Max tire width 1987 trek 400t

Looking for advice on max tire width that could be used with 87 trek 400t. Looking for something a little wider to use on pavement and gravel.

Thank You

I have an 86 400, mine will take 700x32 without fenders. Or 27 x1 1/8"

Suggestions on a good 700 x 32 tire? About 70% pavement and 30% gravel/dirt.

What's good?
Schwalbe Marathons = flat protection.
FMB PR = suppleness

I'm using Panaracer Paselas on most bikes- I guess it depends how how much "gravel" is gravel. I haven't had any sidewall problems- but I'm not riding big gravel.

If you like the cushy tires- there's the Rene Herse tires. But they're kinda pricey.

I've got 28mm Pannaracer Gravel Kings under fenders on a 1989 Centurion Sport DLX. They seemed pretty well balanced on the supple vs. weight, durability and cost scale. I'm not a small person these tires are a very nice ride. I'm sure 32's would be even nicer.

Thanks for the tip. I have champagne taste but beer budget so the pricey ones are probably not an option
