What speed freehub is this?

Hi, I need to replace my wife’s freehub on her mountain bike. The cassette is 8 speed but the freehub that looks like mine says it 7 speed. Kinda confused.

On the wheel it says Shimano FH-RM30 which pops up as a 7 speed hub.

Measure from the shoulder of the Raised Spline to the outer end of the freehub body.... if it's a 7 speed, that measurement will be about 32mm... if it's an 8 speed freehub, it will measure about 35mm.

The FH-RM30 was made in both 7 & 8 speed versions.

Here's where to measure. Expect some minor tolerances.

Since you pulled off an 8 sp cassette, here is the part number for the correct 8 sp freehub body. Luckily, they are still available, cheap and easy to find. Either search for FH-RM33, FH-TX800 Freehub Body or Shimano part number Y30V98050 ( double check you don't get the one with the last 2 part numbers 40 as this is 7 speed and the body is slightly shorter). This body will also take 9 & 10 speed cassettes. Ebay has good prices and some listings have the measurements listed in the ad to be certain you have the right one. Shimano Y30V98050, FH-RM33, FH-TX800 Freehub Body for sale | eBay
