best CL/kijiji score?
well, I am waiting to hear back on a dude who posted a nice looking set of dura ace 7801 brifters for $25 on CL (I sent an email 23 minutes after he posted.. he had no phone number listed) and as I wait to see if I won, I wondered: who among you has won the classified listing lottery?
what was your best score?
(edit: going to pick up the sti shifters at 6:15 am monday! sleep be danged..)

Got these plus cash for a Frankenbike I had on CL a couple years ago............
My size!
A size too small and the paint speaks for itself but it's straight, dent free and no rust inside the frame, it was a "throw in" after the deal was made.
Picked this up last year off CL, seller was pretty proud of it but after I pointed out all the cosmetic issues he came WAY down. Didn't "steal" it but the price was fair. Not my best CL money wise maybe but definitely the highest quality bike I've scored off local CL.

I got my Bianchi Volpe on craigslist. The owner's father was selling it. The bike had been abused and under-lubricated and didn't work well. The asking price was around $165. I offered $145, and the seller accepted.

A nearly new Chris Kvale.
Had to hop in the car and drive from St. Paul to Des Moines.
I beat another guy from the Twin Cities by seven minutes.

I'm waiting for someone to post about the tubular Mavic wheelset with 8a Dura Ace 7402 hubs (and brand new spare tubulars) that they bought from me for $30. Shortly thereafter, I was bit by the classic/vintage bug and have been wanting to try tubulars (ugh) and am now looking for 7402 stuff to build up an Eddy Merckx. That's my biggest CL loss!

$20 for a Schwinn Prelude with Columbus Tenax tubing. The only things wrong with it were the handlebars/brake levers (someone converted it to a flatbar) and the tires were shot. I rode it for a bit and sold it for 200, I think.
Just recently responded to an ad for a "road bike with gears" and ended up paying 80 bucks for a Miyata 712. Only problems were missing a brake pad and the tires were shot. Problems fixed in 20 minutes. I look forward to riding I hopefully this week (still want to change the saddle, pedals and add a rack)

This may be my best "score." It's a 1985 Trek 400 I picked up for $75. Honestly the bike was immaculate. Even the original tires were in pretty good shape. I overhauled the bike but the grease was also in good shape because the bike had not been ridden. I replaced the handlebar tape and saddle. There are a few scratches on the bike from storage but other than that it looks like it did when it left the shop:

'09 Bianchi Dolomiti and a rough '91 Bridgestone RB-1. Both from the original owner. $400 for the pair.

That is a beauty. I recently parted with a very similar one that I bought for $90 from the original owner in 2014. It was beautiful but I already have a SC in my stable.
My best score from Cl in 2015 was this '84 Fuji Espree. It was free and in nice condition. This is how it looked when I sold it. It helped me acquire parts for my keeper bikes.

Tough to pick. I am electing a pair of 15+ year old NOS Campagnolo wheels for $50:

Yes I know the radial spoke pattern is not recommended. Need to get the right spokes.
The other that comes to mind is a Bike Friday I picked up that had a broken rear triangle. I invested total of about $300 in purchase, repair, paint and parts, sold for over $900. This picture is the end product but I fixed the fender line first. Kept some parts too.

Three years ago , I answered a CL ad that said " bikes for sale" . Called the guy and he met me at his storage unit, which was packed with bikes . You name it , MTBs , vintage road , hybrids , etc .
I cherry picked 5 road bikes , the best of which I kept until recently . Not a steal , but a bargain at $80 . 1990 Miele Lupa , 105, Columbus .
