Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not for my money you haven't. I have a 1997 Cannondale R500T that I have upgraded to a 105 road double crank and BB, 105 brakes, 105 F/R ders, Brooks B17 saddle, Ritchey stem, bars and seat post and lastly Michelin Pro3 tires. I have been told I am nuts, since the frame's spacing in the rear triangle limits me to 7 speed rear hubs, but this bicycle fits me perfectly and does everything I ask of it. You are just making your bicycle what you want.

It's just begun BDS!

Everything you bought you can transfer to your next build so there's really no loss there.
When the time comes, all that stuff will find a new home on another frameset.
And I agree with the others here who say that if YOU like it, FTW. It's worth it.

Coming to this forum to ask if you have an overboard-problem with upgrading, is like going to the Long Branch Saloon and asking Louie Pheeters if he has a drinking problem.

We here, tend to swim on the deep end of the pool...

Get a frame upgrade and keep the bike forever, then it wouldn't be considered overboard. Most people would say the frame is most important than the part. For my maximum I'd spend in cycling is 3k. I currently ride a 700 dollar bike and it has lasted me well, I'm tempted to get a new one but I got to resist. I don't even ride with proper cycling gear cause it's to expensive. All I wear is 10 dollar shirt, shorts and about 60 bucks on non spd shoes which I can use for multi purpose. I really want spd =[, if only the shoes weren't 110+ ^@!%#^%!^$%!* dollars....

You don't have to pay that much for spd shoes. Several people posted links last week on another thread here for shoes that cost less than $50

My first spd shoes (and used them for 6 months) were $45 on sale and I got to say it's just as comfy as my current $130 pair. Just make sure it fits.

and OP, we all have it. It comes with the sport, highly addictive whether or not you compete.

Hey, we're in the same boat!

Replaced the sora drivetrain to 9speed ultegra brifters and a mix of 105 and fsa comps. 3t handlebars, fsa stem, new carbon seatpost, specialized toupe saddle, fsa brakes. All thats left is the wheelset for me.

I love the bike so its all worth it. Ive spent 600$ over the last 4 years upgrading and riding my bike and its done wonders for keeping me on the bike and from buying a new bike that i dont 'need' yet.

No, not overboard. But you definitely need a new frameset on which to put all those components.
