Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I see it on the streets of San Leandro, Castro Valley, Hayward, or San Lorenzo, I'll PM you!

PS.

Rent a vehicle (don't tell anyone). Use binoculars to watch friends for the next week or two. Don't announce your whereabouts.

Plus: Hire a PI to help you check your friends and associates!

Phone records would be important here...

Possibly a dumb question, but... why does it sound like he's practically trying to SELL the bike in the CL ad?

Like.. He mentioneds ranges for who the bike would fit, prices for individual components, etc... ?

Anybody looking to buy, certainly wouldn't call somebody who's suspected not to possess...

OTOH - If these component parts suddenly appear for sale on CL, it might raise suspicions...

PS.

I do see your point, though

I would take the list of components off the craigslist posting, if the guy that stole it tries to sell it but has no idea what the components are you just gave him the whole list. Can mention part by part to the potential buyer thanks to that list. Most bike thieves have no idea what gruppo a stolen bike has.

+1 to an inside job theory

if it was stolen from inside his house, odds are it was someone he knows who knew he had a bike like that.

In the seventh photo, is the lowest cog missing a tooth or two? I assume it's by design, but what's going on there?

It's a bizarre ad. It's requesting information about it's whereabouts, or leads to someone possibly selling components. At the same time it asks this (?): If you have any additional questions or needs, just hit me up. I prefer phone calls, first come first serve. 415 Three-Zero-Seven 1312

Wut?

personally if i had a bike like that i would have bolted down in the garage but thats just me, i dont know the guy, but its my buddies friend, and i'd hate to see anyone lose a bike.

That's a heckuva reward, but I suppose after he tells them how to chop and sell his bike, he needs to give them an incentive to bring it back. Thieves suck and should all rot.

Think like a bike theif here: I'm going to part out the bike and sell the components separately. Nobody's dumb enough to be riding that around.

The hardest to sell would be the frame of course, but everything else would be instant cash.

Try to see if someone's selling 1-2-3 of the parts, then you can suspect that seller stole the bike.

The thief probably wont make it far before that cassette wears out and starts skipping. That should narrow down the search radius.

Funny though that the ebay seller is only selling two bikes that just listed and their the exact two that were reported stolen. These are still West Coast bikes. The Pro SL on Ebay does have a yellow sticker on the downtube near the crank that the CL add doesn't have.

Other stolen bike on CL https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bik/2795621788.html

his friend has already reported both of those ads to the cops, so we'll see what happens, maybe someone up in washington could do a little snooping around
