I saw stage four has a late cat 3 climb, tons of roundabouts in the final km's and apparently crappy weather today. I'm just hoping there's not a GC catastrophe for EF.

Gaviria.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Can you hear the drums?

Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

With that cat 3 climb, maybe a surprise breakaway.

Jakobsen or de Gendt?

Jakobsen just gets it with a perfect leadout. Bennett showing amazing form by just missing out by what must've been a cm.

EF once again deals with crashes and wind but no time lose. Phew.

the vuelta gods taketh and giveth. dqs loses the ttt by two seconds after team jv pulls a “my bad” and gets away with it. team jv goes down-hard. jacobsen of dqs beats bennett by the tiniest of margins while kruisjin abandons. i hope g bennett and gesink are up to the challenge because roglic has officially been thrown to the wolves.

You all look very impressive arrayed in front of me in the VG league.

I am going to walk Hadrian's Wall for a week. (yeah, really) I expect I will be in front of many of you upon my return. I may voyeuristally and fecalvocally (i.e. trash-talk) pop in from time to time to wallow in my glory mid-Hadrian. Enjoy it while you can.

Y'all have fun with what looks to be a heckuva race. Thank the good Lord for on demand viewing.

Conti? That would be a prediction coup.

Let me throw some buckshot at the wall:

1) Roglic loses some time. The fall nags.
2) Esteban for the big grin win.
3) Uran into red. Unless MALopez crushes both my #2 and 3 predictions.
4) EF animates the big race a good bit, but the real deed will be the sorting between Carthy and Higuita that lets me know if I'll ever cach our host in the VG league.

Summit finish will be a good one to watch. Wondering if my Continental rider Rodriguez will make a showing today? It would be a treat to watch EF dominate but Pogacar lurks in wait.

Good picks, but I'll go with Teuns for the stage win today.

Hey my continental rider netted me two points today!
If only I had put Pogacar for a climber and Quintana on the wild card. Roglic looked just awesome. Sepp Kuss was an awesome surprise as well. Him and Craddock netted me respectable points, so awesome to see the young'uns doing well. I pretty much based my selection from watching the Tour of California as Higuita and Pogacar dropped everyone up Baldy.

Yeah, you can sure tell who did and did not do their homework for this league. Obviously, I didn't this time. Just picking out names willy-nilly doesn't cut it.

yah that was awesome. having done that brutal climb more than a few times, it was impressive to see those young guns shred it like it was little more than a freeway overpass.

stage six horrible prediction...if fuglsang weren’t shepherding the leader’s jersey along, i’d pick him. since he is, i’ll go with the green bullet.

Ironically I had Herrada in the Tour but not Vuelta. I find my lack of faith, disturbing.

stage seven...this was a stage i was actually gonna be in spain for and was planning on riding approx 45 miles total there and back to catch the finish.
unfortunately, family nonsense intervened so the spain trip got grounded into a regional southwestern us trip. this finish is one of those ridiculous spectacle
giro/vuelta finishes the fans love and the riders hate. if purito or bertie were still racing, i'd take one of them. since they're not...
going with lopez altho higuita, nieve or pogacar came to mind as did conti but i can't go with conti ftw again just yet. maybe third week...

Missed watching this stage but will definitely watch the ending tonight. From just the results it looks like a crazy GC battle. Is Valverde actually trying for GC or is this all a clever ruse to soften Roglic and Lopez for Quintana?

@canam73 Holy cow you're gonna get a ton of points

canam73 may have lost two riders but has created substantial separation in the first week.

ah...my pick of valverde shows up a day later. figures. both he and quintana doing well. thought roglic might lose 15-40 seconds today but he almost won. are any of these guys gonna have anything left in the tank in the last week?
