Looking for affordable rain jacket
Doesn't have to be bike specific, just work for cycling. Gore-tex etc not important, as persiration always outworks any kind of breathable membrane. I do appreciate venting though.

Frogg Toggs makes very inexpensive and durable rain suits. I take them hiking and biking, usually carry a full set in the trunk incase the car breaks down.
They sell them at most sporting goods stores and Walmart.

We used to carry a bunch of these clear PVC jackets in the support vehicle on bike tours, just in case of a downpour.
They don't breathe particularly well, but they will keep the rain off of you. And they are cheap!

I really don't think that's true with modern technology. I have an intermediate price jacket (Altura Nevis) which is really very good at getting rid of perspiration. I have a friend who has a jacket made with eVent who tells me that it is just amazing. I have occasionally worn my Altura jacket as a windproof layer as on colder days it is very capable of keeping up with my rate of perspiration.

It its above 65deg, I would rather be rained on.
If its below 55deg, I would rather wear a jacket and be wet from sweat.
In between, it changes each time because the grass is always greener.
I havent found a rain jacket that I love- they have always been bulky. But I also havent spent over $70 for a rain jacket.

I got a real nice one from The North Face outlet store. Was originally $250! Was discounted down to like $50. Great jacket. Also picked up some rain pants at as well. Check out any outlet stores.
