Many years ago, a guy took up a parking spot and part of the one next to it. I managed to fit my old Chevy Impala in there anyway, so he coudn't get out. I watched from a distance as he finagled around, bumping my car a few times. Mine was destined for the scrap yard soon, so I just thought it was funny, assuming he was more worried about his car than I was about mine.

Today a guy complained his new Corvette stumbled when he stabbed the accelerator @60mph. I took it on the freeway and stomped on the gas and it activated the traction control because it was spinning the rear tires @60mph. Damn.

Owning a beater car certainly is liberating. I used to have a POS Mazda pickup and I used to enjoy parking it wherever, merging into whatever lane I wanted, grabbing the right of way, safe in the knowledge that everybody in a nicer vehicle would yield.

Sometimes I get to beat up on people's machines. One time a guy said his 'vette cut out @6500 rpm. I had to test it many times (85 mph full throttle and it would cut off) until I figured out the intake duct was collapsing and shutting off the air.
Lucky I didn't get a ticket. I got really tired of hammering the thing, actually.

My m/c experience is limited to air cooled two strokes but if coolant is getting into the combustion chamber, it sounds like a head gasket or cracked head.

Couple years ago a kid at another Chevy dealer got a ZR1 airborne and hit some parked cars, a bus bench, and a building.
They said he was over 100mph when he hit a dip in the street (35mph zone).
I drove one of those things, it was ridiculous, 85mph before you realize it. I took it back to the shop before something bad happened.

So, this getting fired stuff isn't so bad. Contracted back with the same company at a rate almost twice what my pay by the hour was an employee.
Between, severance pay, pro rated bonus, stock grant vesting, unused vacation pay, and the minimum they're obligated to pay me on the consulting deal, it's almost a year's pay. It could be more than a year's pay if I do more consulting than the minimum 20 hours a month.
So while it costs the Company more to fire me, than to keep me employed, They get to bury these costs in "purchase money accounting" for the new acquisition, and announce $30 million in cost savings to the Street. Got to love Corporate America.
Only drag is the consulting work and job interviews are interfering with my riding.

corporate accounting...it's a funny thing. that said, it's also easier to cut what is essentially a contingency workforce if times get tough in the future vs having to go through layoffs, so there is some point to setting up for the future even if it costs more today.
glad you landed on your feet; sounded like there was little doubt or worry about that from your earlier posts.
those with special skills often make out better in these scenarios; not all are so fortunate.

i drive a land cruiser that is 20 years old with a set of bull bars and a door that is still smashed in from a suicidal moose. pretty much everything about it screams 'get out of the way, IDGAF.'

No, the non-compete runs from my last date of employment. The consulting agreement is clear that I'm a contractor not an employee.

A year before my attorney father was planning to retire his employer (big fortune 500 company) came to him and said "we're eliminating your position and if you retire now we'll pay your full salary for two more years." He didn't have to think about it very long.
