you don't ride your bike very much
I can say this with complete confidence, because quality bibs are arguably the most important thing after fit when it comes to putting in real miles
if anything, you just proved yourself to be a hipster that walks more with your bike than riding it
seriously, dumbest post in this thread

I've probably forgotten more about cycling than a clown like you ever knew.
But if you think the measurement of quality is in the $$, that's fine.

let's look at both sides from summary of 6 pages.
walmart / cheap stuff:
non-bike specific designs
easy on ur wallet (around $20-50)
lower end materials (cotton/ polyester)
expensive cycle wear
probably breaks ur bank (around $200)
higher end materials (merino wool, probably more comfortable)
specific designs (wind/water proof, covers ur tush, back pocket, etc.)
longer lasting
In short, $200 may seem ridiculous for some people. For others it's fine to drop some dough on something that will last. It's a choice. I can't believe it's going on 6 pages right now. Again it's CHOICE. Some people have the dough but CHOOSE not to spend that on clothing. Some people do. It doesn't make you a ******bag. Sometimes people CHOOSE to be a ******bag. Everyone's entitled to a different opinion. NO ONE's is better than others.
Ok. Case closed.

Just to show what a jackass you are, I commute 40 miles a day, 365 days a year. I also regularly take 100 mile day trips up into the Adirondack Mtns.
I've probably forgotten more about cycling than a clown like you ever knew.
But if you think the measurement of quality is in the $$, that's fine.

I made no implication that money and quality had a linear relationship. If you get off on trying to look like you've got hardships and therefore are more hardcore, then whatever, you'll never run out of posting material on bf. If you're going to spend (conservatively based on your claim) twenty hours a week on your bike, $150 is nothing over the course of a year. Unless you are still thinking of things in terms of what they cost in 1970.

In the post I replied to, where did it say anything about being specifically a hoodie? Your whole posting, just for the sake of arguing, gets old fast.
Here is a Nashbar rainproof jacket.

if you are a girl, or a girly man, the Sombrio artemide storm jacket on chainlove looks pretty legit
it's a hoodie, it's waterproof, is made for bikes (singletrack, but whatever) and is $79, down from 219

In town, just about anything is better than cut-off jeans. Just make sure they fit. They should be snug, not loose. Several makers of hipster approved clothing have cycling shorts that don't look like cycling shorts; you may want to do a search for those. More like mountain bike shorts.

I have and they didn't work for me. They may work for you but I'll pay $160 for my Hincapie bib shorts over whatever $50 shorts are out there. I started out buying the cheap stuff and worked my way up as my dissatisfaction with the cheaper stuff grew. It helps that I can afford the more expensive stuff now; 15 years ago I couldn't and rode all over the place in regular Wal-mart shorts. Not for 100 miles, though. That would've been torture.

Check Performance.com Their house brand is cheap and they've got good prices on Pearl Izumi and others. Personally, I've found the more expensive stuff like Descente and Hincapie better but I ride my road bike a lot more.

WalMart has arguments. Not sure if they're cycling specific.
