So I tried to order my Madone 6.9 frame about an hour ago and....
they said they wouldn't be available until January.
Considering they can build the bike with components and have it to me in a couple weeks I found this odd.
Why can they not sell me a frame before January in one of their stock colors?
I have sold my other bike to purchase this one.
I was going to build it up with Campy Super Record.
Question is... Do I wait until January or go ahead and buy something else?
A guy in my club had a crack in his 08 frame and just got a new 10 frame. Took him 8 weeks to get it from them. They said that it was first one out of production.

I'm walking back to my car carrying my Cervelo last August with my flat tire I got in a race in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. I see another guy carrying his new Madone. His rear seat stay was cracked. Somebody had rear ended him in the Cat 4 race. Since they were both going up a 5% grade at the time, the effective impact speed couldn't really have been more than a few mph. Those skinny seat stays are pretty fragile on those frames.

I'm guessing the OEM/complete bike orders will be the first filled strictly for profit reasons, but that's just a guess.

I think if you have a CF seat stay that's 12mm thick (or however thin these things are) and somebody bumps it, it might break. That's the tradeoff for light weight/compliant ride on a CF frame, and Trek isn't the only company with those micro thin seat stays. But theirs are about the thinnest out there. Doesn't really surprise me.

I know I'm giving the play by play. My Specialized sold and I'm ready to buy a new frame.

You would think it's easy to take a stock color frame and stick it in a box and ship it. If they are that far behind on building $8500 bikes than something is wrong. I'm in manufacturing and could learn about carbon fiber layup and production and make it faster if I had the time and money to invest in such a venture.

I'm glad I finally received a witty remark on one of my posts from Pcad.
I'm just saying that 3 months is a long time to wait for the frame. Knowing they are in production already. My friend has had his 10 frame for 2 months already.

Hmmmm.....
I am showing a 35 day lead time. I am a dealer, BTW, so I am seeing this through the official ordering system. FWIW, when I ordered my 6.5, lead time in the bike-builder part of the site said 38 days, but I had my bike in 4. Go figure. Better than the other way around, though.....

So wait, you sold your bicycle before you bought a new one. Was that your only bike? Are you bikeless until this new one arrives?
I hope not. If so, that wasn't very good planning. I'm expecting another month or so of great riding before winter really sets in and makes riding less fun. I'd be really, really annoyed if I didn't have a bicycle to ride.

On second thought, I wonder if the shop is just trying to cash in and report a long lead time for the frame in order to sell a complete bike... Yeah, cynicism has gotten the best of me, I know, but it would make a lot of sense.

How many 6.9's do you think Trek is making?
(Really, January doesn't sound long that long at all in the grand scheme of things.)

I got a 6.9 P1 in 30 days with custom paint. Ask to speak to the district representative.

Sounds like a compromise to me. The Prince is obviously a nice bike. Unless you want a bike with an integrated bottom bracket, seat mast technology, Di2 integration (if you want), integrated speed/cadence sensor..........
