Mixtes are supposed to be unisex, but really they are meant for and marketed to women.

Frames stopped being "mens" and "womens" frames when women stopped riding in skirts.
yeah, and track bikes are meant for the track. Is this thread suddenly going to become the poster child for use appropriateness?

mixte/step-through frames were originally designed for women, but are mostly now used as unisex. locally, in japan, the prevalent bike utilizes variations of that style frame--the ubiquitous mamachari with a handy basket!--and it is is used by everyone, man and woman, young and old. i also see various utility bikes designed with a sloping (to varying degees) top tube. i suppose 'wrong' is a bit strong, since that particular frame, at the time, may have targetted women, while i was generally referring to more current adaptations.

yes you are right, although designed for the use of both sexes i still believe those frames look like a women's bike and should therefore be used by women. Much like a kilt, a kilt is unisex, but generally looks like a skirt, which is again meant for women. I dunno. Im not trying to offend any Scottish people on here im just saying.

I am simply stating my opinion regarding bikes that look similar to the geometry of women's frames. It not intended as an insult to women or mixte riders. And marrock i hope you were not offended by the Scottish comment it was the first example that came to mind.

Perhaps that is poor logic, like i said it is the first thing that came to mind, women and men are welcome to wear whatever they want, i really could care less how another human being chooses to dress themselves, it has nothing to do with that it was an analogy i tried using, and a poor one at that. How about we flip the coin on that, what if they started marketing high heel's for men? would you buy them? What about sun dresses for men? Ultra breathable and non restricting? My point was simply that mixte frames are basically the same geometry as womens frames regardless of how they are marketed, and as a male i am not interested in riding one. I was under the impression that this forum was about bicycles and discussing your opinions on them, and that is what i was doing, once again it was not intended to offend any Mixte riders, Women, Men, or Scots.

From Wikipedia for Mixte:
A direct appropriation of the French word meaning "mixed" or "unisex"

Is there even enough housing to turn right all the way? Other than that the bike looks good to me, even where the brake is. Nothing wrong with being different as long as it still works.

As for the other bike, that's just where the brake mount is. It's the cleanest way of mounting it considering the cable routing.
