Benotto stem my mystery...

Hi Guys,
Hit a bit of a head scrathing wall with the dissassembley of a Benotto pantographed stem and bars....

As you can see from the pics below theres no cut in the bar whole to act as a clamp and be released when you undo the not - so I figured maybe there was a wedge inside being pucshed forward by the bolt or something like that - took the bolt out, nothing - bars are solid in there!

Can anyone help point me in the right direction (other than a big hammer....)
