Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wich brooks saddle for a road bike?

I recently got a new giant defy composite 2 bike about a month and a half ago.
I love the bike but I hate the saddle,I figure if I haven't got used to it yet I probably won't.

I love the brooks saddle(champion flyer) I have on my touring bike but that wouldn't do very well for a road bike.

So my question is wich brooks saddle would be best for a road bike? The swallow, the swift or the b-17 narrow?

I have a Brooks B-17 on my touring bike. I also have a Giant Defy Advanced with aerobars and put a B-17 Imperial on it. That cutout on the Imperial sure makes a difference especially when on the aerobars. BTW: There is a B-17 Imperial Narrow available.

Really, the b-17 isn't too wide for the low position?
Also I never even considered the imperials.

Well the none applies only to meat and Brooks. Fish and Selles are perfectly acceptable!

Not too wide for my rump. I do notice a little more rubbing between the legs when down on the aerobars. I might try a narrow version the next time - which could be 5 or more years with a Brooks.

Team Pro Titanium....it's narrow enough when you are going low and relatively light (in brooks' world) that it would be at home on a dedicated fast road bike.

One of my roadbikes has a b17 special, another one has a b17 select. Both bikes have the handlebars about even with the saddle and I am not really concerned about weight on the two bikes. I went with a different saddle for my Roadeo, which the handlebars are a little lower than the saddle and I am a little concerned with weight.

There is a priest joke lurking in here somewhere, but I'm not sure where, and it would probably get me banned.

I've used a Brooks Team Professional on a road bike and it works well. Its main drawback is the weight, close to a pound (370 grams IIRC). The Team Pro is shaped like a San Marco Regal. I'd go with that or a Swallow, but the Swallow is pricey. Actually, I'd go with a Regal before any Brooks.

Not the answer you are looking for but from one Brooks fan to another, I recommend you give the Adamo road a shot.

I long ago bought a Brooks Colt and liked it very much. But during a period of neglect it deteriorated and I just threw it away last week. I was originally made for the American market. I see Brooks has returned it to production again. If I were to go back to Brooks saddle for the road bike that is what I would get. But it is heavy and probably not that much more comfortable than the Selle.

I do have a Brooks Professional which was a heavy Leather B-17, B-17 Champion, and a sprung Brooks Conquest too.

I went out on a limb and purchased the Velo Orange Model 6. I heard it was comparable to the brooks shallow but with longer rails. So far I can't complain and for the price difference I am one happy camper

I have a Team Pro Classic:

https://www.brooksengland.com/catalog...m+Pro+Classic/

I like it and it's pretty narrow and aerodynamic compared to other Brooks.

I have three brooks saddles.
The LHT Gets the B-17, the Masi fixie (set up for long distance) gets the Team PRO, and the Soma Smoothie gets the Swift.
They all work for me.

I use B17 narrows on both my road bike and road singlespeed and I'm happy with the results. Of course, we are talking saddles so it really doesn't matter what I use. Al

Do not get the Brooks swift or Swallow- leather stretches too easily. The Team professional is good, though heavy as said. I have been a brooks proponent for years, nay decades. Recently tried a Fiziik Arione that I had given up on and with a few adjustments in geometry, found that I liked it much better than the Brooks.
