Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's just groovy man. What's weird is that they only cost $32 each on E-Baa...that's less then titanium and some carbon fiber cages; I didn't don't know titanium or carbon was worth more than gold. Of course I'm sure it's just a micro thin layer of electrostatic applied gold.

I just wanted to take a moment and say that I am proud of myself. Other than a few basic necessities I have not bought any cycling related things for almost 6 months.

I wish I was like you. Although have not spent much compared to what others spend, I bought a Castelli cycling kit for $140, a box of shot blocks and a bottle of GU brew powder. And just moments ago ordered some new tires (Shwalbe Ultremo ZX) because last night I discovered a fairly big hole in my front tire that showed wires, and a piece of glass lodged inside the tire with a buldge coming out the side. So that last one was pretty necessary. Now I just hope I don't get a blowout in the meantime while I wait for the tires to come in. Might make this week a recovery week just in case.

I've tried an all carbon saddle, and the only drawback was the slickness takes some getting used to. The one I tried was too short and had a cutout, so overall not what I needed. FWIW Prologo sells a carbon rail version of the one above that (they say) only weighs 85 grams.

I regularly ride 80-90 miles on it. With riding shorts I don't think it's too bad.

My used TacX Tao bottle cages arrived, but the heads on my bottle cage bolts are too wide, so it's off the to store to get some new ones. Why did they design them like that?

My new set of big fella wheels (Vuelta Corsa HD) and first pair of clipless shoes (Shimano MT33) are on the truck for delivery today. Pretty psyched!

Just ordered a set of Shimano RS-81 C35 wheels, should expect them in the next 2 days! I can't wait to put them on the bike.

I know what it feels like. I just reached that point where I was kind of happy with what I had, where before, (for years) I was always looking at the next thing that was better than what I had. I guess it is part of growing up. I realize I wanted to have things for the sake of having them, rather than needing them.

I've found with most hobbies, you hardly ever "need" any of it.

I do wish I could find a cheaper hobby one day. Perhaps I'll try to take up knitting, yarn can't be that expensive.

Although true, some things are necessary. Like I'm 90% sure my front tire was at the verge of a blowout at any given time while riding so I decided to buy new tires. I lost 60 lbs so most of my cycling clothing fits me like baggy clothes now, and I decided to reward myself with some nice fitting Castelli stuff while I saw it on Chainlove. That reasoning doesn't give me buyers remorse like, say, buying a carbon stem just to shave a small amount of weight. But I agree, this sport is ridiculously expensive.

Incorrect... my gf is a knitter and between needles, yarn, books.. then of course you want to spin your own yarn so a wheel or 3. she makes some really nice things though

My "2014" flat black road shoe came in today... except it was a 2012 white and black shoe. I know it was an honest mistake and that shop treats me really well with discounts so I kept my mouth shut. Got a set of speedplays and went out for the first ride... Loved the shoes, jury is still out on the zero's though.

Even with discounts you're paying a pretty penny for those "latest S-works shoes" and I for one would ensure they make it right and not take something I didn't really want. But you're a better man than I...

Perhaps, I second guessed the year.. At first I just thought the color was off and noticed the front strap was missing and thought it was odd. Either way, the shoe is amazing.
