Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Raced a school bus today

Coming back into East BF today I was waiting at a light when a bus from what must have been the Bill Engvall HS for the Gifted pulled up alongside. The jeers started immediately. From the girls (as I flexed my guads): "Hey baby!", "Hey sweety!". Then one of the guys: "Hey man - what you got in that thing?". That was it. It was only about a mile back to the main East BF intersection and I thought "No way in Hell they're gonna beat me there - not here in Hammerland".

I jumped at the green light and droped, pulling out of ear shot of the bus. I got it to 37 mph, but could not hold and was overtaken and passed with much shouting and jeering from the bus brats. I was totally humiliated.

Take it from me - a mile can be a long way.

My son somehow flipped his bike racing a school bus. Those things are dangerous. Be careful.

Did you flip them the bird and call them a bunch of lazy sacks for riding a bus to school instead of riding their bikes?

Agreed.

So far the only vehicle to have run me off the road in the last two years was a school bus.

It wasn't a fair race. The driver was doping.

I like to get behind school buses, so I can check out my reflection in the bottom window of the rear door. I am being entirely honest. it is on the perfect level so I can see myself cycling. I have no other such opportunity to see myself riding. I am not so vain as to have someone film me!

I've seen some stuff I could probably be arrested for seeing while drafting high-school kid school buses.

Kids at the back of the bus, FTW.

With a school bus, all the little pricks are on the inside.

i raced a fedex truck the other day and the driver was apparently so demoralized he stopped at the next house and left them a couple boxes full of what were obviously all his personal belongings.

That would probably be more effective if it was...

Draft it next time. The pricks inside have no idea what you are doing and will be much more impressed with your ability to hang with the bus.
