Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help for choosing CAAD10 105 5 size 56 or 58 ?

I'm about to get Cannondale CAAD10 105 5 Road Bike
But I don't know which size (56 or 58)will be fitted well for me.
My height is 186cm(6'1"), inseam: 88.5cm and my Sternal notch
Is 156cm.
I wanted to try those two in bike shops but those two were not available.
So I need some advice for this issue.
Any recommendation?

A *good* local bike shop will ensure you buy a proper-fitting bike. Even if they don't have the CAAD 10 105 5 in the 56 and 58 cm frames in stock, they should have other CAAD models in those sizes such that they can determine which size is best for you. And once they order your bike in your size, they should verify it's a proper fit before they let you roll it out the door.

That's what a *good* LBS should do. You don't mention where you live; if you do, forum members may be able to steer you to a good LBS that carries Cannondale. You really want to do a live fit; sizing calculators can get you pretty close, but the LBS should dial in your fit.

Good luck!

I'm 185, 87 and 155 and ride 58cm CAAD10s - you may be the same, or different. Having seen photos of me astride the rigs, I couldn't use a 56cm frame, but you may be different.

Also, do not buy without a try - if they won't come to the party, find someone else - plenty of LBS will gladly provide a service to take your money and there are always demo bikes around. 56cm and 58cm 'dales are everywhere.

cheers

If you want to play speed racer with 5" of drop, go for the 56. A targeted normal fit for your size would be a 58. A comfort or French fit would be a 60.
Btw, I am also 6'1"
Come on back and show us what you get. CAAD10's are very nice bikes but with pretty aggressive geometry.

As said so well above, I'm not sure if you can help yourself without riding the frame and actually getting things dialed in properly. Maybe just a start in which size to work from.

I am a 2012 CAAD 10 4 rider, 56cm frame size, height is 186cm/6'-1", inseam is 81.2cm/32", stem length is 100mm. I have a long torso and short legs, take all this for exactly what its worth and what you paid for it. Best of luck on making your choice, the CAAD 10 is a fantastic ride, in all its levels.

Either frame should be good. Frame size with non custom bikes is more of a ballpark. Then you start with the small changes for the actually fit. You being 6'1 both should be fine.

I'm 5'10" and ride a 56 with 130mm stem. Lesson being, we're all different so you will need to try it out.. caads have the same geo as the super six evo's so you could try one of those in 56/58.

In my country, the Cannondale distributor does not have 58 size. that's why I posted this issue. I know it sounds weird though.
Thanks.

Okay, I didn't understand that your dealer didn't carry ANY 58 cm frames. Does that mean you're the tallest person in Seoul?

Well, I guess the best you can do, then, is see how well the dealer can fit the 56 cm frame to you. If they can make it feel comfortable without going to extremes in terms of seat-post height and stem length/bar height, then it's probably okay to go with the 56 cm.

The problem is, if the 56 feels a bit cramped, it's hard to be sure the 58 will work. Have you asked them what their ordering policy is? I know that for some of the shops in the U.S., if there's a question between a bike in stock and one they need to order, they will order the bike so long as you agree to buy ONE of them -- in other words, they're willing to risk adding the larger bike to their stock so long as they know they will sell one of the bikes. It really helps the buyer because the side-by-side comparison is best.

Again, I wish you luck in your hunt.

I'm 6' with a 32" inseam and ride a 56 CAAD10 with a 110mm stem (I think)...

the point really is that you'll have to test which is more comfortable.

If they don't have a 58 CAAD10, try a 58 Evo... the geometry is very close between the two.
