Narhay's Super Course 197x

Picked up this late 70s super course today from one of the burbs. Interesting not labelled as mk ii despite having the componentry and frame details for it. I mostly stuffed the kids into the car and took the drive because of the some of the componentry and aftermarket upgrades. Brooks C15 cutaway saddle, nitto technomic stem, nice nitto bars without a model marking, 1st generation long cage suntour cyclone gt rd and the suntour barcons with the original coiled steel cable housing. My plans for the bike are to borrow these items, rebuild it back up with period and good quality components and move it along, hopefully at no cost to me.

The frame is in quite nice condition and paint is very good. I have had a 1974 super course and it is interesting to see how these frames improved and evolved over time, namely the braze ons and forged dropouts.

Very nice! Serial number under the BB should be in the Worksop format and tell you the build year. I’d guess ‘78-‘79 based on the components.

Unfortunately this is one of those half stamped then filled with paint serial examples. I can make out a W and that's about it.

I like everything except the crankset. Nice find!

Nice indeed. My '77 looks pretty much like yours except the dropouts are chromed.

It looks a lot like my '78 SC. These are great riding bikes. I also have a 73, but this one feels quicker, more responsive, with similar running gear.

I added a second bottle for a 100° Pasadena vintage ride.

I have 3 SuperCourses. 73, 77, and 78. Looks very similar to both my 77 & 78. Nice mid-level bikes. Have fun rebuilding it.
