that's exactly why i post the whole thing in an english forum as well. you can reach many more people all over the world. i'm seriously thinking about selling the replaced bike right away, but unfortunately there aren't too many alternatives on the german market. most of them are of the "very cheap" type or cost a lot more. Tern unfortunately fills a rather large gap in the market.
Have you considered getting a Birdy? It's German designed and you can swap out the 18" wheels for 20" (406). They are difficult to find in the US but should not be a problem for you and would be a good alternative.
Now I'm worried about the two Terns I have. I do have one Birdy and it's been great.

yes, i know the birdy, but i have consciously chosen a bike with a motor because i am not even 40 years old and this **** arthrosis starts to annoy me...

Are there threads with these type of failures in German? Other languages? This is troubling.

i talked to my dealer again today (one of the biggest in the field of folding bikes) and asked him how many frame breaks he already had in the Vektron series and according to his statement in the 4 years he works there now, i am the first one...

Those broken "welds" aren't. There is NO penetration whatsoever. Blobs of molten filler on top of the base material doesnt qualify as a weld.

This is a Tern P7i I converted with BBSHD, going on 300 miles so far over crappy NYC roads. I had to readjust the center hinge since the conversion. I commute with bike 3 times a week and ride it hard. Will keep you guys updated if the frame fails.

I wouldn't. I've used that motor and it's a monster, that frame is no match for the power you're dumping through it.

My Cargo Node failed in the same way about two months ago. I’m not allowed to post photos yet since I just joined, but here are some details:
Bike: Tern Cargo Node purchased May 2016 plus Bafang BBS02 mid drive kit
height. 5’2”
weight 112 lbs
riding surface in your area: mixed, but when it broke I was rolling across train tracks
bumpy? When it failed, yes, very, otherwise mixed
luggage? backpack, pannier(s), front bag, or: when it failed, I was carrying just myself, maybe 10 lbs of gear in the Leap bags plus the 14 lb motor/battery. Around 140 lbs.
typical weight of luggage: Around 90% of the time the load was less than 150 lbs. The other 10% of the time I carried luggage, kids, all kinds of stuff. I definitely approached the 350lb stated limit.
total mileage: around 5k miles
I’m a small rider and not very powerful. The BBS02 is rated at 750 watts. I nearly always used it on the 250 watt or 375 watt settings. When it failed I wasn’t pedaling or using the throttle, there were no forces on the drivetrain. I was rolling at about 8 mph over a set of really bumpy train tracks.

I, too, am relieved that hpr didn't get hurt (or worse).
And I am grateful to have found this thread. For a while I was seriously considering buying a foldable bike of some sort, with the fantasy that I would be able to take the train to various cities and then experience those cities by bike. But forget about that!

Well, forget about with an aluminum Tern, but Dahon, Brompton, etc should be fine.
