Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No. Mixed bag. About 1/3 is medical stuff like tough cases or medical mysteries. About 1/3 is P&R which I stayed out of. And the rest is general stuff. I joined the site in its early days about 15 years ago and found it helpful. The owners changed it bigly last year and new format sucked. I think most users walked away. At least I did.

Come up north and a bit east. Living near the Kettle Moraine left by the glaciers, I can't find anything less than 40-50 ft/mile. Nothing steep, but sometimes would like something flat and simple.

I'd like to do more riding up there.

I did this route not too long ago, and very much enjoyed the sections in and around the forest.

Thanks as I have booked marked this as it uses different routing than I normally go. This is right in the wheelhouse of my longer rides. Haven't yet made it to Whitewater or La Grange this year, but starting to consider.

Interesting that it indicates fairly little elevation change per mile. I'm guessing Strava/Ride with GPS measure differently, but perhaps it is the routing.

My Rapha order arrived.

Rapha being Rapha and with me having some largish thighs, I decided that I should play it safe and get some Slim Fit pants in a 36" waist. Nope. They're fuggin' huge on me, so huge that I'm tempted to go down two sizes, but the idea of me in 32" pants is absurd (unless it's a fat American brand).

The first 40 were awesome, I liked the back 30 less. Didn't help that I got a gnat in my eye and it got pretty warm and sticky. I think the route might be more enjoyable in reverse - it would put the more interesting stuff at the end.

On my ride Strava gave me credit for 2600', FWIW.

First of all, pravastatin has a short half life so please verify you are taking it at bedtime or at least in the evening?

(edit, for those who don't know....the statin drugs work by inhibiting the synthesis of LDL cholesterol, specifically at the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme level, but this process is controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system, the body's "housekeeping" system, so to speak. Some statin medicines like crestor or lipitor have a long half life and can be taken any time, but others like pravastatin and simvastatin have a shorter half-life and really should be taken at bedtime or in the evening. I have improved several patients' cholesterol numbers by telling them to take their medicine in the evening. It's unfortunate that most physicians are too busy to be aware of this and remind patients about timing of medicines.)

Huh, no ****? Makes sense 'cause it's one of the water-soluble ones which don't give you the leg-aches. I have been taking it in the morning. Long-Suffering Spouse told me that was wrong, so of course I kept doing it.

I suppose my PCP assumed I knew enough to take it correctly.

Looks like I'm going to survive and you guys won't get stuck with Siu. The photo is a good impression of how I slept last night ... pretty lousy. How do you like that shoulder pad, eh?

The doc offered that I might want to alternate this drug Ketorolac with my Percocets. I tried one today, but after reading the warnings i don't like the sound of this stuff. I might just stick with the narcotics, feeling loopy is better than feeling dead. Whatcha think, docs?

Nice pic. Glad you came through okay. Ketorolac is no worse than ibuprofen, at least in the short term. I'd do it; you'll poop better and that's half the game. Hell, use ibuprofen instead if you want, just keep the dose to no more than 2400 mg/day.

But you just saw me get schooled by @datlas.

They sure made it sound worse. I'm accustomed to Indications, Contraindications, and Warnings coming in that order. The very first thing on this literature is "Warning: This drug may raise the risk of heart and blood vessel problems like heart attack and stroke. These effects can be deadly. blah blah blah"
