Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mine probably take that long, but it's one of those things where if I had a shop do it, I'd feel like I was being lazy. Basically I do all my own bike maintenance except the stuff that requires specialized tools, like headsets, bottom brackets, and cranks. I built up the Battaglin and rebuilt the Ritchey myself. Only took me 3 broken Campy seatpost binder bolts to realize the Battaglin takes a 27.4 seatpost, not a 27.2.

The mother of all storms was supposed to be here this morning but the sun is shining. They've revised it to this afternoon. This is typical of weather prognostication in this area. Remember the weather rock? Ever see the movie L.A. Story?

Guess I should get out for a little spin while it's dry.

But buying and using the tools is just as fun as buying the parts to use the tools on

Derision? Too long?

Things that slow me down are getting to the end of a wrap and realizing that the scissors or the finishing tape are not within reach...

As MN gears up for kids to go back to school (per Gov's order before the most recent flare-ups and new strains), the schools are going to need some extra time to ready themselves. This means that my son will be off from school from tomorrow through Feb 8th. This not too long after winter break and with spring break looming. Oy.

There was a front page article about his opinion in the Philadelphia Inquirer last week. Google won't show it to me as I don't have a subscription, but feel free to look for it.

There is way to little evidence to say he is right or wrong. I would not worry too much about taking some tylenol after a vaccine at this point.
Just texted my brother. He took ibuprofen and APAP and had zero reaction to the second dose. Now he’s worried.

He must have been in the placebo arm of the double-secret probation study.

I actually read lots of them since somehow I am the chairman of our local IRB. I am trying to step down but they won't let me.

Well whatever the cats think won't be considered since they can't articulate their opinions. Harsh, I know, but I've got to work with what I have

I probably wouldn't like the cold any more, but if I'm going to live somewhere with winter weather, I want it to go all-in. I haven't ridden my MTB in months because this winter there has been an unusual amount of snow on the ground, and trails are groomed for fat biking. That would be awesome if I had a fat bike, but over the last 5 years I've been here there's never been a winter with enough snow to justify owning one. Same story with snowshoes or XC skis.

I bet it would be pretty entertaining to see me hold the end of the wrap with one hand and stretch way across to the workbench to grab the finishing tape without the bar tape unravelling.
