Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They are calling for snow on Sunday/Monday. My office is already askeered and have changed Monday to 100% telemedicine.

So I can WFH on Monday.

I've been a subscriber to Bike magazine since about 1994 when I got it for entering a charity ride, iirc. I always renewed and it has been the only print media I receive except for Westways, which comes with Auto Club membership.

Bike was absorbed by another publisher and is no longer in print. Instead, they are sending Men's Journal to Bike subscribers. Meh. So far I haven't found it very interesting but it's seems predictable. It also has cigarette ads! I thought that was out?

Its amazing to keep how things like that persist. As a former smoker with nothing but loathing for their entire industry. I believe they are nothing but drug dealers, and should be treated as such. Scum of the earth parasites.

Yeah, I remember when I started buying car magazines again after a decade or two of not buying them. After years of no tobacco ads on TV, seeing print ads is jarring. "Didn't they outlaw those?", I thought. Nope.

Speaking of forbidden ads, it's interesting to go back and look at some of the TV ads from the 1950s and 1960s. Beer ads, for instance. Ever notice that beer ads don't show anyone actually drinking the beer? It wasn't always so!

I've seen the ones with Fred Flintstone smoking with Barney. I don't think I've seen a beer ad with people drinking beer. And only recently hard liquor ads came back to tv.

I remember seeing Moto GP bikes which were raced in Europe with Lucky Strike as their main sponsor and when they raced in the US they made the LS logo into a Pac-Man, among other things.
