Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Quick Generic Wheel Comparison: One sentence answer required

Hi all. I just need some quick insight. I have two bikes, looking to sell one. I'm wondering which pair of pretty generic wheels to keep. Assume condition/age on both are the same. One pair is a Shimano R500 (WH-R501) (Red and white lettering), and the other are a pair of DT Swiss Axis 2.0 that came off of a Specialized Amira. I tried comparing weights (no scale available) and it felt pretty similar. Which one is slightly better? Any opinions? Thanks!

I would weight them and keep the lighter set but then it shouldnt look out of place on the bike also it's important to keep the set that isnt out of round, spokes nipples not stripped and is a true rim but then there is the hub issue be sure the hubs are ok and not gritty or binding you know even when greased and adjusted in a proper manner.

How was that?

Honestly they are roughly comparable. You may want to try each set and go by how they feel (assuming same tires and PSI).

Haha, never too young to be a perfectionist...
Joking aside, I'll get to get a scale and weigh them and check their hub quality if they are pretty similar in wheel quality.

Shimano. The Specialized wheels are really heavy and aren't particularly well built.

I was really referring to "One sentence answer required " but glad to see you took it in the intended spirit.

To actually answer your question I'd go with the Shimanos because the hubs are loose balls and I prefer those...

DT is Swiss, Specialized uses Asian contract factories , they hire makers .

Shimano will have easier spare parts availability for new Cassette drivers and such.

I have been using a set of shimano r500s for four years on my winter/bad weather/commuter - they are somewhat light, somewhat fast, and I can't seem to break them riding over Hartford's crappy roads. I would suggest the Shimano.

I'd stick with the Shimano as well.

Quick Generic Wheel Comparison: One sentence answer required

I was hoping someone would ask for a comparison of these particular wheels since I have the definitive answer.

Yeah, I'm not talking about the answer anymore though, so additional sentences are okay.

Haha thanks all. I just meant the one sentence as in "the answer to my question is pretty simple and should probably take only one sentence to answer". Should've worded that better!
