Ask your local police department if they hold auctions. In this part of the country, they hold them once a year. There are a lot of impounded and abandoned bicycles. The original owners rarely come to claim them. Most auction bikes are junk. Of those that are not junk, half of them are in terrible shape. If you have a keen eye, you can get a nice bike worth fixing. If you are very lucky, you'll get a bike that doesn't need much or any work to get it working.

The prices you can get are amazing. I think the most I've paid for a bike at an auction is $50. And I've gotten some bikes that retailed for several hundred dollars.

At the last auction, last summer, they moved it from a Saturday morning to a Wednesday morning. There was no one there to bid against me. The officer told me to show him what I wanted and make an offer. I picked out SIX bikes and gave him $100. I think retail value of the collection was $1000 or $2000. I love the fact that cops don't know anything about bikes!

. Planet Bike Freddy Fenders
. Origin8 Space Bar
. Instead of grips I have the world's shortest handlebar tape job

i want to know what those handlebars are...

My new commuter/MTB.
2009 C'dale F3. Switched out the tires to Maxxis Holy Rollers.
Added some old titec micro bar ends.
Rack is the Topeak childseat disc rack. The new MTX compatible version.

I'm liking it. Still debating on which trunk to buy. Most of all, can't wait to ride the 27 miles each way to the nearest trails.

It is a new model for 09.Sport 105, Stock, except I have changed to a zero degree offset seat post so the "crank forward" is where I prefer, not too extreme. A Brooks Flyer Special and a removable basket and lights. I'm real happy with it.

I JUST got this rack/bike holster gizmo and I love it. Really light and compact AND strong. Can hold 100 lbs. Works pretty well as a work stand too if you position the 'arms' right and strap the bike in via adjustable clamp. It's called 'the michelangelo' by 'the art of storage', in case you're interested. So, I had to snap some photos......

Top is my GF's bike, then the trucker, on the right is my speedy bike.

Just finished converting my 520 over to an internal Alfine hub. Keeping the tripple ring on the front and using a JTek barend shifter for the hub everything seems to work great together. Various other things have been added on but my Nitto rack, B&M dynamo light and honjo Fenders are all not in yet .

But I am fairly happy with the way things have worked out thus far.

That looks badass...

You need to put on a front fender... it will save you and your drivetrain and make everything look right.

That bike is far out! I'll tell you why:

1. Cannondale
2. 1x8/9 setup
3. fat tires

I don't think those tires would fit on my 'cross bike. But I do want to put the biggest that would fit. Damn you must have some long legs.

I agree. The bike is gorgeous. Your saddle is tipped down. Are you sure it's not too high? Usually, a saddle is adjusted right if it's dead level or ever so slightly tipped up.

I think maybe the camera distorted the pic a bit, the saddle is not as high as you might think. I am 6 feet tall and the bike fits me great. I use a 90mm stem up front. The saddle angle is a bit off, I took it off my mountain bike. I am still searching for another saddle. I'm used to riding a road saddle so that's what I am going to slap on there. Thanks for the kind words guys
Oh and I'm still fine turning the handle bar height. That is why I haven't cut the fork yet.

1991 Cannondale SE 2000

My 1991 Cannondale SE 2000 - Had this bought by my friend when he went to USA in 1991. Gruppo is Shimano XT & Rock Shock absorber. So far tires / rims were changed to Mavic with stainless steel spokes used.
